Hi everyone,
I wanted to give you more info on the 'Live From Nowhere Near You' Benefit Concept CD that features a track by Mike McCready (vocals and guitar), Stone (guitar), Cole Peterson of Sweetwater (bass), and Chris Friel of the Rockfords (drums).
It collaborates Professional Musicians with Street Musicians (you know the guy you see on the corner playing guitar, hoping you put a dollar in his hat? Kids playing drums on buckets?) to tell a story of life on the streets and to and from there. All of the profits from the sale of the CD will go to a NW homeless and streetyouth charity by the name of Outside In.
I recorded most of the music live on the streets and in my attic studio. None of the professional musicians were paid for their contributions and the streetmusicians were given what I could from my own pocket and refrigerator. The album features 75 minutes of music (!) and over 75 various musicians.
Along with the McCready/Stone/Friel/Cole track, other contributors include director Gus Van Sant (singing), Squirrel Nut Zippers, Spoon, Brad of Third Eye Blind, Chris of the Presidents of the USA, David Andrews of Calobo, Five Fingers of Funk, The Robots, Hungry Mob, and others?
Why is this relevent to you all and Pearl Jam? Two reasons?
The first being that Pearl Jam was a large influence on this project from the start, even before McCready and gang graciously decided to contribute. Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you that PJ has long been one of my favorite bands. The words that Ed wrote to 'Even Flow' along with the lyrics to 'Excuse Me Mr' by Ben Harper had a significant influence on the thinking that seeded this idea in my head.
It is also a given that Pearl Jam fans tend to be compassionate and have a great taste in music. Coming to this board daily during the idea and recording stages of this effort influenced its composition greatly. Board member Greg Snell (aka Alcoholiday/Exhausted) contributed two incredible pieces of his heart and music that became crucial to the story the CD was trying to tell. I also began sharing poetry and lyrics with a board member named Kristi whom ended up with some spoken word audio on the CD. And 62 Strats band Wayside might have been on the CD if I had been able to make room for there too long song?Lowlight...I'm sure I'm missing a few here?.
Really, all of you have been great and a great resource for bouncing ideas, frustrations, and music off of- for that I thanked you, the 'Jamily', in the liner notes.
Big thanks also goes out to all the PJ guys, Kelly Curtis management, Liz Burns, Kat and Sea, Tim with the Ten Club, Chris Nagano, Rumor Killer, and a few anonymous others who were a HUGE help. Not everyone would put faith in some guy who says he is going to record streetmusicians and give all the money away?the rest of the music industry would be a much better place if they had even a quarter of the talent, kindness, and integrity that everyone involved displayed.
The second reason is because I need your help spreading the word. As mentioned, this effort is as grass roots/independent as they come and I do not have a label staff or marketing budget. We would like to get this great music out there and to as many people as possible- so that the charity can benefit as much as possible. So, I am asking for YOUR help in spreading the word. Please pass along this info and anything you might find to your friends, the other message boards you visit, any local media people in your area, ANYWHERE. Your help would be appreciated and I am sure that karma will reward you nicely.

The CD can be found in local retailers (hopefully) or online at various places like amazon.com and towerrecords.com.
Again, thank you. The website has an email address to contact me if anyone has any questions or if you just want to be kept up to date with new music and happenings.
Sincerely,
Kevin Moyer
