...which is some friends and I heading out to the Big D to see CC (w/ John Mayer)...

Have You Seen Me Lately by CC

Get away from me, just get away from me
This isn't gonna be easy
but I don't need you
believe me
You got a piece of me
but it's just a little piece of me
And I don't need anyone
these days I feel like I'm fading away
Like sometimes when I hear myself on the radio
Have you seen me lately?
Have you seen me lately?
I was out on the radio starting to change
Somewhere out in America, it's starting to rain
Could you tell me the things you remember about me
and have you seen me lately?
I remember me
and all the little things that make up a memory
Like she said she loved to watch me sleep
Like she said:
"It's the breathing, it's the breathing in and out and in and..."
Have you seen me lately?
I was out on the radio starting to change
Somewhere out in America it's starting to rain
Could you tell me the things you remember about me
And have you seen me lately?
I thought that someone would notice
I thought somebody would say something
if I was missing
Can't you see me?
Come on color me in
Come on color me in
Give me your blue rain
Give me your black sky
Give me your green eyes
Come on give me your white skin
Come on give me your white skin
Come on give me your white skin
I was out on the radio starting to change
Somewhere out in America, it's starting to rain
Could you tell me the things you remember about me
And have you seen me lately?
Have you seen me lately

3X5 by John Mayer

I'm writing you to
catch you up on places I've been
You held this letter
probably got excited, but there's nothing else inside it
didn't have a camera by my side this time
hopping I would see the world with both my eyes
maybe I will tell you all about it when I'm
in the mood to lose my way with words
Today skies are painted colors of a cowboy's cliche'
And strange how clouds that look like mountains in the sky
are next to mountains anyway
Didn't have a camera by my side this time
Hoping I would see the world with both my eyes
Maybe I will tell you all about it when I'm
in the mood to lose my way
but let me say
You should have seen that sunrise with your own eyes
it brought me back to life
You'll be with me next time I go outside
just no more 3x5's Guess you had to be there
Guess you had to be with me Today I finally overcame
tryin' to fit the world inside a picture frame
Maybe I will tell you all about it when I'm in the mood to
lose my way but let me say
You should have seen that sunrise with your own eyes
it brought me back to life
You'll be with me next time I go outside

it was john w/ cc, although they played about the same amount of time.

So it was such a great show. I loved it so very much.

Adam came out and introduced the opening band which was from Dallas apparently, but I can't seem to remember their name. I could go look, but why would I do that. ;) They were ok, the weren't spectacular, but they weren't bad. Adam seemed to like them a lot. During the opening bands set, Adam had apparently gone out and was signing autographs, which, of course I'd miss, but my friend Brian said he said hi to him, and Adam said hi back. lol

My only disappointment with CC was that they didn't play longer. Otherwise, it was SOOOO great! They started out with Rain King w/ Raining in Baltimore mixed in there. It was funny; during Raining in Baltimore, Adam tripped over the monitor and fell to the floor. He recovered well by just laying there with his bare feet propped on the monitor singing away. lol Umm.... they also played Good Time, which I just really really really love. They played Big Yellow Taxi, I think partly to appease the John Mayer fans who probably dont know any other song they played. (note: I like John Mayer myself, so I can say that when I say John Mayer fans, I don't mean all of them, but a certain variety of them that I think is clear as to what I'm talking about... fans like, who will forever be known to me, as the "tasty triplets" :)) Um... lets see... ah, they played such great stuff... they had a little Van Morrison thrown into Round Here and started out Long December with an Oasis song. Of course, Nate is pointing much of this out to me because they are songs I don't really know, but happen to be some of Nate's favorite songs.

Really, as with many concerts, I'm no good at expressing the extent of how great it was in words. Brian, being one to acquire these things easily, said that he'll hook nate and I up with a bootleg of the show once he get's his hands on one, which there was a guy just down the row from us with recording gear all set up, so that should be nice to have.

Ok, so John Mayer. There was only one song I was really wanting to hear and he didn't play it, but that's ok. It wasn't too bad. I think CC shoulda finished last just cuz it would have felt like it finished with a "bang" as opposed to having the bang halfway through the show. But, John is a great guitarist I think. In fact, I think he's more of a guitarist than a singer. I also think he could very well be trying to hard to be Dave Matthews. I think the boy has potential, he's just not there yet and shouldn't be headlining his own shows yet. I don't think he's ready, but this is my opinion. I think it woulda been better if there weren't the screaming girls factor, but that was expected right.

really quickly, now would be a good time to tell you about the Tasty Triplets. So, about two rows in front of us, these three girls, probably around 15 or so, come with, I guess, one of their dads. They are each wearing matching black homemade tshirts that say on the front "John Mayer..." and on the back "TASTY!" and on the sleeves were their initials. They also had a big poster board sign that said "We Love You!" I know, original right? Anyway, yeah. So I thought that was really odd. Especially since one of the girls leaned over to the "dad" guy and said what looked like "is this him/them" I don't know if it was him or them. It very well coulda been "them" probably thinking they were CC... something tells me they only know Big Yellow Taxi... and were probably disappointed Michelle Branch wasn't their when they played it. Oh well... so it goes.

You know, maybe John should grow a beer belly or something as to perhaps gain a more appreciative crowd, which in turn, might help him come a little closer to that potential I mentioned.

OK, so I ranted on that longer than anticipated. But, I was very impressed by his guitar skills... and he played a new song that was really bluesy... pretty good I think... and had a long portion of just playing lots of blues riffs. He started talking about various blues guitarists of various varieties, much of which most of the crowd had probably never heard of with the exception of Stevie Ray and Jimi H.

During 3 x 5, he grabbed some person's camera in the audience and went around taking pictures of each person in his band and various pose pictures of himself, describing each pose in song. It was kinda funny. I can almost see ed doing that, except I don't see him taking various pictures of himself. But it was pretty funny... and those would be some cool pictures to have. It also went along with the theme of the song a little.

And... so that was the show.... umm, well, after the show we went to Taco Bell/Wendy's (Brian and Joy wanted Taco Bell, Nate and I prefered the Wendy's next door). Both places had lines of cars backed up forever. Well, once we made it out of taco bell and over to Wendy's, we looked back at the Taco Bell line, and there were these two gangsta looking guys (This is in the ghetto pretty much of Dallas) standing outside of their car dancing to, judging by the way they were dancing and just to also judge by appearances, rap. That was, until the cars started moving, then they got back into their car and carried on. It was hillarious.

Ok, so that's my story. I finished it. By the way, I just don't see myself finishing the Jersey Trip story... I think it'll just have to be fun times reflected back on for furture conversations. "Maybe I will tell you all about it when I'm in the mood to lose my way with words." hehe

PS: Nate really wanted hoped to hear Einstein on the Beach, as well as Mrs. Potters Lullaby, but, in his heart of hearts, he kinda new it wouldn't happen. sigh. The only song I said I wanted to hear that I didn't hear, and didn't so much really expect to, was Holiday in Spain. Maybe if I ever see them in Spain. ;)

why would they think michelle branch would be there?

i'm glad you had fun....and im very impressed that you stayed for the john mayer part of the show...i left after like 2 songs.

where were your seats?

peacefulness
07-27-2003, 09:28 PM
the seats were 16 rows back from the stage, although, we were on the far end, so the way the rows were angled, it only seemed about 5 or 6 rows back, close enough to feel THAT much closer to the stage, but not SO close that speakers/monitors etc were blocking our view. And since people were sitting down through a lot of CC (I don't know why), that helped out a lot as well. ;)

It was more sarcasm the Michelle Branch thing. It's just, my opinion, that Michelle's part in that song seems to be more for publicity purposes than for artistic ones. I guess because I've never felt like it meshed in there well, it just sounded so "not suppose to be there." to me. I don't know if that makes sense.

I woulda stayed through John Mayer regardless... get the most out of my money if nothing else. ;)

do you mean vanessa carlton? (she did the "bop bop bop" part on the radio version of the song)

Michelle Branch... Vanessa Carlton... they both sound and look the same to me. In fact, I wouldn't doubt it if people found out that they were in fact the same person. I always get them confused. Thanks for the clarification. :)

Either way... yeah, that part.

But, anyway... did I mention that Counting Crows are f**king awesome? :)
