I just saw clips of the press conference Kobe Bryant and his lawyers gave this weekend and was shocked to see his wife sitting beside him in support.
I have no idea who is telling the truth with this thing, but I can't believe that this woman would be sitting there holding his hand after he screwed around on her. If my significant other cheated on me I'd be too busy filing for divorce to sit there and hold hands while being publicly embarrassed.
You've gotta know this guy fed her a heaping pile of shit when he told her -
"This is the first time something like this has happened."
"I was lonely."
"You know I love you and that you're the only one for me."
"Of course I used a condom. I didn't have any with me because I didn't plan on cheating on you. She had one with her."

...he's a pro basketballer, for crying out loud. Those guys are banging groupies 3 and 4 at a time when they are on the road. Kobe's wife probably at least had an inkling that he was cheating on her. When someone like Magic Johnson can sleep with over 5,000 women in his career, Kobe is bound to have strayed on more than one occasion.
I'm not saying that what he did is right, I am just saying that it's not so strange to see his wife sitting next to him...

I can't say I blame his wife, a rape charge is obviously quite serious and she wants to show her support publicly. I'm sure at home he's up shit creek whether it's for banging the chick or humilating her, but I can't honestly believe she'd think he wasn't at least dipping into the pools of groupies!
I hate reading about cases like that, I always wonder how much this has to do with money, than rape.

okay! that's pretty loud and clear!
I hate him as a ball player, and I hate his team...but I still am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. From all I've read, wouldn't this be he said/she said?

I'd guess his wife has a whole new pre-nup agreement that works in her favor in order for her to sit with him and show him "support". Girl has him by the bollocks now.

I have no sympathy for Kobe or his wife.
Like Rouge says...he's a pro athlete, and they get their fair share of groupies. His wife went into the marriage knowing what her husband does for a living. Maybe she turned a blind eye, but she's gotta be stupid to think that "that can't happen to me".
In our local paper he was quoted as saying "I love my wife with all my heart". Well, if he had a heart he would have thought of his family first before he dropped his pants.
I also agree that these situations are he said/she said. There are women out there who go after people like Kobe in hopes to score in the sack, scream rape, get pregnant, all for their money. BUT on the other hand, he damn well could have raped her.
Cases like this are hard to distinguish who is telling the truth and who isn't.
Now the bastard should NOT get preferential treatment, or let off the hook for a lesser charge because of who he is. If it's true and he did rape this girl, he should get prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law just like any Joe Schmoe off the street would.
Pro atheletes are the biggest hypocrits out there. They put up this image that they are hero's, with great family lives "love" their trophy wives and kids, but bang any piece of ass that will throw themselves at their feet behind closed doors.
Hopefully cases like this will opens people's eyes that pro athletes aren't as great of people as everyone thinks.

yup, sad but true...and i am not one to usually generalize...
but almost all of them cheat.
my sister has friends that have been with basketball players ...and others have been propostioned by some really famous players (think Jordan)
living in miami...we read and see about them coming down here (south beach) for fun and sun and lots of trouble. This place is the real sin city. everything goes.
and they do it because they can.
I really do hope it wasn't rape...I can't imagine why any a woman would put themselves through the scrutiny and horror of a trial if it wasn;t. But only the two of them know what really happened.

I can't figure out why though - other than the fact that these women are either completely in awe of these guys or too attached to their wallets.
I guess its old fashioned thinking, but I don't see how these women can put up with behavior like that. I mean, get some self-respect and ditch the guy.

I don't know how many of you are married, but what I have learned since being married is that you have to realize that your spouse is also only human. Never having to face the adultery issue with my husband, friends have had to deal with it, and now I can understand how it CAN happen. We are all only human and we all are capable of screwing up..
Having said that, he did make a big mistake, and I do not know what happened in that room. I was not there, it is her word against his.
It is wrong to judge him and declare him guilty or to judge why his wife is supporting him.

We aren't declaring him guilty of rape...no one here knows for sure what happend.
I hate to sound all uptight, but cheating is a sin and it should not be taken lightly. And pro athletes get away with it almost every day with different women, spreading god knows what around. It's a dangerous habit. That's not being human, thats being irresponsible.

Report: Kobe's Accuser Had Recent Overdose
Orange County Register Story Cites Friends Of Accuser
A newspaper story published this weekend could bolster the defense in Kobe Bryant's sexual assault case.
The Orange County Register, citing friends of the accuser, reported on Sunday that two months before the June 30 encounter, "the woman suffered under such mental anguish that she overdosed on pills and was rushed to a hospital." Bryant has admitted having sex with the woman but maintains it was consensual.
In cases of this nature, the credibility of the accuser can be a powerful aspect of the defense's case. The accuser's friends have been keeping her overdose a secret -- until now, the Register reported.
According to the newspaper's report, the 19-year-old was going through an extremely difficult period in her life at the time of the overdose. She returned home from her freshman year of college to find out her ex-boyfriend was dating another woman. Also, around the time of the overdose, a close friend died in an accident while returning from high school graduation ceremonies.
Legal expert and former Denver prosecutor Craig Silverman told KMGH-TV in Denver that this revelation, if true, could change everything and make the prosecutor's work very tough. Silverman has no affiliation with the Bryant case.
"This is a huge development. The defense has found their weapon of mass destruction," Silverman said.
Silverman said an overdose -- intentional or otherwise -- can suggest mental instability, and that's what Bryant's attorneys will likely argue in the court of public opinion and in a court of law.
Silverman said that Eagle County District Attorney Mark Hurlbert had to know about the overdose because of the 911 call -- the records of which have been sealed.
"Yet he decided to go ahead and press charges. That suggests to me that he either has strong corroborating evidence or he doesn't know what he's doing," Silverman said.
