I always wondered,..we recently had this discussion,or rather we were commenting on how much we love Eddie's fuck's...as in "My fucking head" or just "Fuck!" ahhhh...
but,how do you deal with them and your Pearl Jam loving children,...I heard of many mothers that their kid's love the music, but how do you censor them from the cussing??
Or do you find it useless since they can hear it everywhere else aswell...??
Whatever it takes, where ever I may go,as long as my stuffed monkey may go with me.

I think using fuck in a song is the least of our worries as parents. My daughter is listening to Outkast, Eminment, Snoop, etc and the language and implications in these artists? songs are much worse. I believe that as long as you talk to your children, know where they are coming from you can deal with whatever music they are playing. We should all remember what it was like to be a child.

I'm with Anne, my daughter listens to much worse as far as language is concerned...like Shaggy's new song. The kid likes to dance, what else can I say? But she does like her Pearl Jam...and it's almost impossible to edit Eddie, especially live. I do, however, put the brakes on Eminem. Walmart and Kmart sell "clean versions" of certain artists' records and I'll usually buy her those to listen to.
But if I can't, I just go with the flow. She knows what she is and isn't allowed to repeat; what words she isn't allowed to use when speaking. All I can do is lead by example and watch my language around her. You'd be amazed how they pick up on your lead. If I slip up, I tell her that I am sorry, and I don't like to hear that kind of talk. I'll say something like, "Eddie is Eddie-I don't know him, so I can't tell him what's good or bad. But I know what's right and swearing is not a good thing to repeat."

Good Q, Buggy... I was just thinking about this in the car this morning... driving to a pre-school field trip with Ash in the backseat, me listening to Eddie rant about Ticketmaster on a boot of the 95 Chicago show... as you know "fuck" pops up in his rants on occasion /images/wink.gif and such was the case this morning... so Ed's goin' off, and I checked the rearview mirror (hehe) for response from my kid, who is obviously listening... there was no response to the language and you know... I thought about him hearing Ed spout off "Fuck" and it occurred to me... you know, I really appreciate Ed...I appreciate what he has to say and I agree with him... *this* is the kind of guy I *want* my kid listening to...regardless of the language... now that may sound a little off base, but seriously, I would MUCH rather he listen to one of Ed's "fuck" filled rants about the fucked up corporate world than ANYTHING Dr. Laura or Rush Limbaugh could EVER say. To me, it's more in the message than in the words used to deliver it.
Besides, "fuck" happens to be my favorite word, and my kid has heard it from me on more than one occasion. /images/wink.gif

The best parenting advice the I ever got was to choose your battles wisely....since my kids hear the word fuck everywhere that they go and in all of todays music it really isn't an issue with us....they know that there are certain situations where they can't use that word (such as school)...just like as adults we know there are certain places were we cannot use that word (most work places).....otherwise it's just a regular fuck fest(using the word) around our house....there are much bigger issues to tackle as a parent than dreaded F word...just my fuckin' opinion /images/smile.gif

when i first heard my eldest swear "effectively"
(not the time he said farking icecole)
i let him know that i swore at his age, and if he wanted to go off with his friends and spout a fuckfest then whatever, but i didn't want to hear
it, and i sure as heck knew NOT to be doing it around the house or adults/teachers etc when i
was a kid without expecting some sort of repercussion
i also let my kids know that as an adult i have
earned the right to drive a car, drink, vote -
and numerous other grown-up things so if i let
loose (which trust me i do) it doesn't entitle
them to do so
i'm not setting an example for my kids - i want
them to be a better person than i am
and what the hell - my kid learned penis breath
when he was 6 from watching ET
my kids have survived listening to tool - they've
just adopted the word "beep" into their
vocabulary

I pretty much agree with what everyone else said here. There is a lot worse music that is out there as far as language goes. And I too am willing to let my kids hear a "fuck" or two if the message behind the music is important. Just cussing for the sake of saying it is pointless. My kids also know what words are appropriate to use and what ones aren't.My daughter gets offended if her band teacher says he's pissed about something, it just doesn't sound nice to her for him to say this./images/smile.gifSo no, I really don't worry about them listening to Pearl Jam. I encourage it./images/smile.gif

i've got 11.5 and 5.5 year old girls...
cutest thing to me is when they yell, "mom?? can we play 'yield' or does that one have eddie saying the F word in it..??"
i agree with all comments made here thus far, especially 13's...
nothing more i can add....
in the course of human events in my children's lives,
hearing eddie use 'fuck' in a song is the least of my worries for them.

Great response gal's...It just occured to me that I sooo did not invite the dad's on this one,..hope no-one is fucking offended, and feel free to add your fucking opinion on this one.
I'm 18,and the word 'fuck' suits me just fine...and agree with 13,If anyone could or should be a rolemodel for kid's today,It should be Ed,...and If he chooses to use the word 'fuck' to enforce his opinions,..well then fuck! so be it..I think If you talk to your kid's about when it is and isn't right to use it,..then there's no problem.
And you all said it,..Eminem's lyrics, wich contain depictions of violent actions should be bigger worries then a mere 'fuck' from Eddie.
Whatever it takes, where ever I may go,as long as my stuffed monkey may go with me.
