okay, so, please just humor me for a little while here...

now, i'm a freshman in college and i'm thinking i'm going to do a double major in german, and uhh... something else useful to cancel out the uselessness of a german major... anyway, i REALLY want to go to germany, a semester at least but i'd like to go for a year. if i do go it will be my junior year. anyway, my boyfriend doesn't want me to go and said that if i do go away that long we'd probably have to break up. and i don't want to just be like, okay, well going to germay is more important than our relationship and go away, but i do want to go to germany quite a bit. i mean, i'm in college now and this is my time! if i don't spend the year in germany i may regret it FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE... hehe /images/crazy.gif i was thinking, well this is in almost two years, and so who knows if i;ll actuallly still be with this bf... and if i am, we could like... take a break, you know, then get back together when i come home...

the answer here seems pretty clear and it's starting to make a lot more sense to me now that i write it, but i just want some input here. /images/smile.gif

Hmmmmmmm......sounds like your boyfriend is a bit of a wanker. Seriously, I am certain he is not serious, he just doesn't want you to go and leave him.....probably doesn't fit in his idea of how the relationship should work.

Go to Germany, man....you will love it. It is a beautiful country......lots of Germans though......

Go to Germany.
My girlfriend is giving me Hell because I told her I wanted to go study in Paris this coming Fall semester. She doesn't want me to meet any "French sluts". Those are her words. Studying abroad is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Go for it. Get wasted at Oktoberfest!

Go to Germany for Christ's sake. Is your boyfriend incredibly insecure, or just unfathomably fucking selfish. It's just one year, is your relationship not strong enough to last one year without having a constant eye on each other? You only get 1 life, opportunities wasted evolve into regrets, and later you'll blame him.

A Pearl Jam song comes to mind,..'GO' although the lyrics are no help,..the title is pretty clear..
Go!!
I live in The Netherlands, and I might then finally be able to show you the thing I made..8)

Whatever it takes, where ever I may go,as long as my stuffed monkey may go with me.

Hmmm.... I'm gonna take a different approach, but this one probably will hurt you the most (I'm sorry).

Perhaps he's using your trip as a good reason to break up with you... maybe there's someone else?

Hmmm....

do what you want to do and the rest will fal linto place. If you don't go over there for study, you can always go after graduation and perhaps, if you are still with this guy, he could go as well....

yes, well i think the thing is, we're both really insecure which is why i'm questioning going... but as per all the responses i got, i think i have to go... if the relationship is strong enough it will work out, if it doesn't, then i guess it was never meant to be.

that's what he's telling me, we can go to europe together after we graduate, but i'm afraid that won't happen... i'll graduate from college, end up getting a job, living in a completely normal house with 2 kids and a dog and drive a dodge and never go on any trips anywhere... i mean, my parents have never left the country... and they probably never will... i don't want to stay in pennsylvania the rest of my life! (i was in germany once, for three weeks in high school, august '99)
