Have you ever been intoxicated by the internet? Would you try using it as a legal defense for threatening someone? Well, one person did. Read about it here.

I know I get a certain kick out of communicating with people online that is a little different than the way interracting in other ways or doing other things makes me feel. However, I personally think the "high" I get from being online is not so much that I am addicted to the Internet itself, but because being online means I have the ability to communicate with people I consider as friends, but who aren't in my life, physically beside me. At the same time, I can separate my Internet friends from the friends I can be around physically -- and both "groups" of amigos are special to me.
It seems like this kid knew exactly what he was doing when he threatened that girl. Admittedly, I think the Internet can skew things a little bit, in that I know I feel a bit less inhibited talking to people over the 'Net than I would if I was jumping into a casual conversation face-to-face with someone I don't know on more than an "acquaintance" basis. But ultimately, it is still YOU sitting at the keyboard deciding what you want to say/type. You can opt out whenever you want. Nothing is holding you down, forcing you to press the keys. The thoughts are still being formulated in your own mind before you punch them in on the keyboard.
Incidentally, as soon as I read your original post, I thought "Hmm... Wonder if they know about the Twinkie Defence", and boom! There it is cited in the first sentence of the article.
"What is a million people...listening...to your music?" - JA, "SVT".

Well of course. Nobody is responsible for anything they do, it's all an addiction or they are a victim. Unfortunately, it'll probably work for him.

It never ceases to amaze me. The excuses people come up with so that they don't have to take responsibility for stuff they do./images/crazy.gif

"Internet Intoxication?????"
That has to be the biggest pile of bullshit I've read in a long time.....
this is my favorite part.....
"He called the 18-year-old's alleged threat a "virtual crime" that should not result in imprisonment."
so If the other attorney is smart...he'll ask him..."When do we take these cyber threats seriously? AFTER they kill someone or BEFORE?"
Where the hell are the parents for these kids? We're all hooked up in the dining room, the screen faces out, so we, as parents can see everything they're doing......
And believe me....they'll never have computers in their bedrooms behind closed doors...we don't even have televisions in the bedrooms....you wanna watch TV? Watch in the livingroom or the family room.
Who here is a tough assed Mom when it comes to this shit? Raise your hand!!!!

RrVw! I only hypnotise various musicians into thinking they are llamas......and Knights of the Roundtable!......and people into buying certain music.........and folks to buy socks....................and lettuce..............lego men.......and Crayola Crayons....(they have to be Crayola's though).........and mustard...................
other than that.......I don't know what you're talking about.....you must have Internet Intoxication!/images/wink.gif
