howdy ho...I'll cut right to the chase folks....yep, I watched the inauseration this weekend. I listened to the commentary on NPR and watched the actual thingy-ma-bob on NBC. Me, being an avid Nader supporter and equally a Bush denouncer, these are my reflections......

3 prayers were said during this inauseration...1 by the famous Billy Grahamcracker, one by some other dude, and another by some other African American man.....in a nut shell, this is how the prayers went....

"DEAR LORD OF BIPARTISIANSHIP...WE PRAY TO YOU FOR BIPARTISIANSHIP, TO UNITE US BIPARTISIANSHIPLY, TO GRANT US POWER TO USE US AS TOOLS FOR A STRONGER ECONOMY (rape), TO UTILIZE THIS LAND YOU GRANTED US FOR POSTERITY (rape) KEEPING WITH OUR BIPARTISIAN WAYS.LORD OF BOPARTISIANSHIP, PLEASE GIVE US THE STRENGTH TO REVERSE WHAT OUR PREDECESSORS HAVE DONE, TO TAKE FROM WOMEN THEIR RIGHT TO CHOOSE SO THAT WE MAY CONTINUE TO GET OUR CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS FOR THE NEXT 4 YEARS. WE PRAY TO YOU OH LORD OF BIPARTISIANHIP THAT WE MAY BE HERE FOR ANOTHER 4 YEARS, THAT AL GORE AND RALPH NADER MAY FALL OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH, THAT BILL CLINTON MAY NEVER TOUCH ANOTHER WHITE HOUSE INTERN AGAIN. WE PRAY TO YOU LORD OF BIPARTISIANHIP ...IN YOUR NAME."

some prayer.

and then the inauseration ball dance. oh the agony! oh the comedy! Bush dancing with his wife on stage...ahhhh, how romantic....how sweet....how come he can't move his hips? And then, in a move that will forever be held close to our bipartisian hearts...Bush, with wife, Laura, in arms, glances at his watch as if to say "ok Woman. I've had enough." Next camera shot...Bush with daughter Jenna in arms, notably much closer than he damnced with his wife (hmmmmmm), he goes to spin her and the poor thing has a boob flop out of her strapless gown on all the major networks and the minor ones too. Now I really feel for her, I do, cause that has to be embarrassing, especially since it is still being shown on every news station at the top of every hour. But the way Bush looked at it....a little too much for my taste.

so I end this part of Tales From The Weekend with this comment and last reflection of this event....

NPR coverage signed off from the inauseration with this: " We have just inaugerated the first President of the new millenium"

And I can not help but feel sad...time moves forward and we as a nation take many steps backward.

hey amy, that was quite the amusing tale! poor dubya's daughter! man oh man i bet that was some of the most amusing telecasts that have aired lately. seriously, what is with the praying in the first place? there seems to be this guideline somewhere about the seperation of church and state, but maybe i'm just on crack. my god, how can this country, containing many kind, smart ppl, be in such an ugly state?

ohhhh, you have no idea! ugggg! *thinking very evil thoughts at the moment*
my mom is a die-hard bush supporter and i had to stay in the basement (thankfull that's where the computer is!) with my headphones on the whole weekend, just to get away from it all. this whole thing is really pissing me off. i can't believe i have to grow up with this asshole as president! the only good thing is that next time an election rolls around i'll be old enough to vote!!!!!

NO SHIT on the separation of church and state thing... that has puzzled me since I was a kid first learning the history of this country. How can something so crucial to the foundation of the country be so blatantly overlooked? Or is it just an "interpretation" thing?
