holy shit...i just got a call from layne staley's mom...

remember that 1st edition print of "self portrait" i won at the layne tribute show? ANYWAY...

i JUST picked it up on friday from someone i emailed on www.laynestaleytribute.com i have been emailing her for the past few weeks trying to set up a time to pick it up...so on friday we finally got the chance to meet...so i grabbed it from her and i was on my way with no thoughts other than i wanted to frame it...

so i get a call from layne's mom this morning, and she verifies that i was indeed the raffle winner for the lithograph...she then tells me she's had some problems getting some of layne's stuff back since he passed and she apolgizes for me not receiving my print yet...i tell her that i did in fact just pick something up from someone listed on the website...she kinda freaks out and tells me that some counterfeits have been made and what i have might not be what i won...she told me we could get together to see if mine is 'real' or not...i don't want to be a problem for her (this ordeal really seems to be eating at her) so i tell her i am fine with what i have...after all, i have no intention of selling it or making any money on it...

then i tell her that something is written on mine...this also surprizes her...the bottom says "Special Edition, 2002 - 1/1" in pencil...she says "maybe this might actually be more valuable..."

she went on to tell me that thanksgiving was layne's favorite holiday and she hopes i have family and friends around me...i told her i do, but i also told her to be strong through the holidays...i said her son was an inspiration to many and i was sorry for her loss...

weird...

Wow man, that is really something.

That was really nice of her to call you, that shows that she really cares about the people who really loved to listen to Layne.

I hope she has a good Thanksgiving, cuz I'm sure it's going to be tough.

That's really cool that you won that, what does it look like?

Poor Layne Staley's Mom. No one should have to deal with losing their child, esp. to drugs. I can't imagine what she's going through and, to be honest, don't want to. It was nice of her to call you up though.

thanks jake...im glad i have it too...for two reasons:

1. its fucking cool!
2. im not the kind of person to make a buck on it...i really want it because it means something to me...

yeah, i sure hope i eased her mind...she was seemed really worried about the whole situation....i told her the important thing is that her son was remembered and some money was raised in layne's name for a good cause...

That's really cool.

((((Staley Family))))

Did anybody see the MTV Cribs about Jerry Cantrell's ranch? He adopted Layne's cat.

The AIC gang all seemed like such down to earth, nice people.:(

smoothie...I've spoken with layne's mom on many occassions and she is probably one of the coolest people on the planet

when I saw her at layne's vigils she told me that there was no place she'd rather be...that the fans were everything to layne and, as a result, meant everything to her

just to have you say those great things about layne...and the obvious love and respect you have for him and his memory made her day I am sure

and, yeah, it's just like her to be concerned about you getting a "fake"...she is just a total class act

I'm glad she called you...and I'm happy you were able to speak with her and help her...I'm sure you made her smile
:)
