i posted this on the other board, so this is just a copy and paste, but y'all aren't on the other board, and, i don't know, i guess i think it's important...
wow, that was interesting... but, i doubt the accuracy of what was going on, not the chat room itself, but the point that Weinpost was trying to make - one, he is 49, supposedly, trying to drag information out of a 13 year old; #2 the forum he was using, a computer chatroom, #3 the fact that bias proved his point from the get-go, he was not trying to prove the opposite - he wanted the younger generation to appear 'stupid' and that's what he did -- his posts were bullying posts - he was not trying to make scoobs think, he was demeaning and belittling the poor kid, trying to make himself seem better - scoobs was trying, and you could tell he was trying, even putting off a chat with someone else who was trying to save his ass from this weird creature who suddenly appeared on the board with questions about bush - if scoobs didn't really care, he could've just left to chat, but he didn't, which is something admirable, and he kept answering - maybe not the responses we wanted him to choose, but he did respond, and let's face it, even on this board, the discussions are not always of a high iq - this happens, older generations will look at younger generations and pull them down, keep them under, and do what they can to climb above - remember the words - with no power nothing to do i still remember, why can't you - it all goes back to that, my friends - and this is one way that younger generations remain powerless because some members of older generations who've had more life experience and more chance to explain their views (let's face it, 13 vs. 49, who's going to appear to be more intelligent, literate, and better-spoken??), are going to try to make those of younger generations look bad, hence the name generation x, hence the name generation y, hence the name the greatest genaration (oh, tom brokaw and his wonderful little book, i swear) - scoobs was not stupid, he was attacked from behind in a forum not meant for such a discussion, with no back-up and support - it was an unfair article, and it wasn't meant to speak well of youth, but youth is never spoken well of is it??

it wasn't what scoobs was saying (btw, she's a girl:13/f/az means she is a 13 year old female in Arizona) that i found frightening... i mean, at least the kid responded... it was all the others who were just saying "ANY HOT GUYS IN HERE?" and "ANYONE HAVE NAKED PIX OF BRIT?" while someone was attempting to have a half way intelligent conversation that I found disturbing! AND, one of the chicks in the room was 18, and could hopefully have some sort of knowledge to kick around with the guy, but was instead was ready to strip on her web cam for any hot men in the room! (Boy, I'm glad Weingarten resisted that temptation!)

Yeah, salamander, I'm with 13 on this one. Those perverted kids are what I'm scared of. Jeez, this reminds me of the time when I had a 14 year old boy from Brazil randomly send me an ICQ message, asking me "u like sexo?" Granted, he probably wasn't 14, but let's give him the benefit of the doubt here and say he was. And, weinpost didn't make the younger generation appear stupid - they did that all by themselves with those nude pics and webcams. I know it's not right to make any generalizations of the wee little ones based on this "exercise," but I think that that chatroom is a microcosm of what our society seems to be dwindling down to. For every good, decent, intelligent, kid, there's x amount of ridiculous ones. I'm just not sure what the factor is. Let's hope it doesn't weigh heavily in favor of the bad seeds.
