Hello. Check out this e-mail I received today from my professor for senior seminar. Its almost humerous in a morbid way.
Greetings ENG 4800 students,
I hope this e-mail finds all of you well and enjoying the summer months. I have been receiving a few e-mails from your fellow students regarding the upcoming seminar. Most are questions regarding prepatory reading and expressions of anxiety about the course load for senior seminar. Let me comment on the latter - yes, senior seminar is very demanding in regards to what will be expected of each of you. To summerize, you will be required to fulfill the following obligations :
- 5 papers, each 5 -7 pages in length based on readings througout the semester.
- 2 oral presentations on current issues in literature.
- Two major exams (mid-term, final) as well as periodic quizzes on literary theory and its adherents.
- Your senior thesis, which must be a minimum of 30 pages in length.
Your senior thesis can be on any topic in the literary world. One of your classmates asked what this includes as far as what is defined as literature. If you are unaware what literature is, then you don't belong in this seminar. You MUST state your intended thesis on the FIRST NIGHT. This brings us to prepatory reading. You would be wise to choose a topic and read as much as you can during the time we have left before classes begin. Trust me when I say you WON'T have time for much once the semester starts. This seminar is the culmination of what you have learned in all your other English class.
If you have any further questions, please send them via e-mail. See you in September, and enjoy the rest of your summer!
Ah, I love the last line. Yikes.
