well, I highly doubt they're coming to lubbock, but if they were I'd go. Of course, it's obvious I don't know enough about them to know for sure whether they'd be coming to lubbock, but that's ok. I heard them on the radio today. I was like 'hey, cool.' Right after two from Pearl Jam, too. Spheeet!!!!/images/laugh.gif And that was right after tool, which was right after a perfect circle (which I guess counts as 'two from maynard.' hehe). It's 2 for 2002fers weekend on fmx. You gotta love those cheesy little slogans n stuff. Only, where there's two of PJ, there's bound to be two of, say, creed, limp bizkit (not very often, thank god), and any other 'rock' band that is for pure irritation. /images/tongue.gif

holy fuck. lol.
Have you seen them live, prism? What have you heard from them that's turned you off so much?
These are crazy days, but they make me shine...
its the guys voice that turns me off. I've heard a few of their songs cause a couple of my friends like them. don't know the names though.
I can't get past a band if the lead singers voice doesn't work for me. that's why I can't take some otherwise "classic" bands like Rush. I also cannot stand Guns N Roses, Bon Jovi (well, Bon Jovi sucks for more reasons than the lead singers voice), Led Zeppelins vocals pissed me off when I was younger too but I'm getting more accustomed now, Natalie Merchant ( whats worse is that her lyrics are horrendous), Our Lady Peace, Sponge, Jane's Addiction, Mother Love Bone, and topping them all off.. Smashing Pumpkins.
I'm glad Stone got only one song on No Code
I do like Bob Dylan however. go fig.
Chris Cornell was treading that line when I was younger, but then I heard "fell on black days" and have been diggin on him ever since. You ever see the video for that song? it's amazing.. especially the one chorus where he wails "How would I KNOW????!" and his eyes grow really wide and he shudders a little. it's very spiritual that video. But I dug the song before I even saw the video.
Alice in Chains. Same deal. Layne Staley's voice was too nasal for me.. and they did the same vocal technique in every song.
I can confidently say though, it's all my problem. I think most of the bands I've mentioned are actually really good artists.. they just don't sound pleasant to *my* ears.
There was this band called "Better than Ezra" a while back. I don't know their status right now.. but that one single they had with the constant "WAHHHH OHHH" refrain really pissed me off. I couldn't bear to listen to them. Almost on par with Natalie.
I do positively adore neil young, and I guess he sounds sort of nasal? Maybe not. I think his voice is precious.. like something I'd want my child to hear before he went to bed at night.
And Jeff Ament's voice is great too. I'm sure he can't rock the scales like Ed might be able to, or maybe he doesn't have that vocal control.. but just the sound of his singing is so wonderful. I really dig his work on the xmas single.
I was surprised by Mike's voice too on something I heard a while back. I dig his voice.
If you've ever heard three fish, the lead singer Robbi Robb? something like that... at first I didn't like his sound at all, but now I love it.
I don't mind guys with higher pitched voices like Maynard (who is one of my all time favorites) and Chino (also a fave) and Johnny Carwash from this board, just as long as they don't sound too nasally. I really really cannot bear Axl Rose's voice and even though some of the songs are good I just hate his voice and can't listen to them.
I think Eddie Vedder has the most perfect male voice known to man. It has clicked with me since Day 1. Everything from his pronounciation to the way he holds out notes is perfect.
On the same token, I can't stand Scott Stapp's voice. The first time I hear Scott Stapp, I felt like he was trying a little too hard.. like Eddie Vedder is fresh grapes and Scott is the little tin can of juice concentrate in the frozen section that you have to dilute with water.

Shweta, that's interesting.
I don't like Mankind or having Stone sing. Just not my bag.
Gordie's voice (The hip) to me is so original, and I think that I like it for the fact that it doesn't sound like he's trying to sound like something he's not. His voice is the way it is. His lyrics are stellar, and I think it just makes the music so awesome. (I could do without their background vocals though...)
Maynard is awesome. I remember when I first bought a Tool album at a garage sale for one buck. What a buy that was. It's still in my little tape player that I keep in my shower. /images/smile.gif Their newest album, which was stolen from me, is just as great.
I have mixed feelings of Chris Cornell, sometimes I can pop in an album and love it to death, other times there are some songs that I just can't take. His range is out of this world. I am really hoping that I get to hear what he did with RAge.
One singer that I really enjoy listening to (on studio albums) is Adam Duritz of the Counting Crows. His voice is great to listen to, one of those voices that really come from the heart of the guy. Yet live, it's way too whiny and gets annoying at times.
I just listened to Yield the other day, and I have to say that it is probably the best album to listen to if you want to hear Ed at his best. (Of course, you could add 'Of the Girl' as a bonus track /images/smile.gif) Ed seems to be so damn pure, I wish I had the talent to sing a song and have my feelings come out with every word. That is a gift that not many have.
Stapp's voice is just...fake. It sounds so fake. Liek you said, he seems to be trying a little too hard. I remember way back when Silverchair was coming up, and their singer was getting shit for sounding like Ed, yet when you listen to him, you can tell that he isn't trying to sound like that:That's his voice. Scotty pants just sounds too cheesy.

"like Eddie Vedder is fresh grapes and Scott is the little tin can of juice concentrate in the frozen section that you have to dilute with water." That's funny. hehehe... never thought of it that way.
My former roommate katharine couldn't stand axl's voice either. We had a deal... I would not listen to GNR in her presence if she did not listen to that annoying disco in mine. Sometimes she played the disco, so i was forced to play the GNR. She learned. She learned well. I miss Katharine.
Some singers annoy me at first, but I can usually grow on them. I grew up on Rush, so I never really thought it was annoying... same with Led Zeppelin... same with Bon Jovi, although the songs can get a little boring. Guns and Roses was my favorite band in 3rd grade. I went from NKOTB to GNR. Isn't THAT an amusing transition. I have to be in the mood for Our Lady Peace, but I like it. Perry Farrel is a unique voice that took me some getting used to. Love Andy's voice... and Stones. Bob Dylan's voice I have to really be in the mood for, but great lyrics let him get away with it. Loved Chris Cornells voice the first time I heard it... it was amazing to me. Soundgarden came before Pearl Jam for me... same with alice in chains, although I like jerry's voice better than laynes... most of the time.
You know whose voice is incredibly nasally and not worth listening to cuz the lyrics don't compensate for it??? NELLY FURTADO... I mean, sure she's pretty, but I just want to give her a bottle of Nyquil and tell her to go sleep or something. ***shudder***
Anyway, that went longer than I thought... as it usually does. I need to get back to work now. Tah.
