This is the post where i first heard about layne.I came on to this site and this post was at the top,so i just clicked on it without looking at the title's of the other post's,but i didn't even put 2 & 2 together until i went back to the main page and saw prism's post.it just didn't register in my head right away for whatever reason.I saw his name at the bottom of the list and never even thought about him being dead.Wow

i just got off the phone with my girlfriend who is/was Andy's cousin. she was the one who told me about Kurt on an April Saturday morning... i thought i should tell her about Layne. She is currently pregnant with her second child and had nearly settled on "Layne" for a middle name (it was one of her choices for when she was pregnant with her first child, Andrew) ... just a few days ago she was thinking about whether she should choose that name with that spelling for this very reason.
'tis a sad day. heroin is so powerful and so destructive.

i just buried my friend joey yesterday.
they found him in his apartment,
a needle still stuck in his arm...how sad is that?
heroin could care less if
you're a rock star or not...it doesn't discriminate.
RIP Joey and Layne....
and peace & love to you all...
it's sad, but in a weird way, i'm just happy to be alive today.

Sandi, I hope she's doing okay, and I've always thought that Layne was such an original and cool ass name...
Heroin has taken some beautiful people from the world...and not just the ones that we've heard about..but thousands of others...it's really sad..

This is so weird. Just yesterday, my cousin died from a herion overdose...a more distant cousin, but a cousin nonetheless.

I caught you knockin'
at my cellar door
I love you, baby,
can I have some more
Ooh, ooh, the damage done.
I hit the city and
I lost my band
I watched the needle
take another man
Gone, gone, the damage done.
I sing the song
because I love the man
I know that some
of you don't understand
Milk-blood
to keep from running out.
I've seen the needle
and the damage done
A little part of it in everyone
But every junkie's
like a settin' sun.
thank you neil. such a beautiful song about such a terrible addiction. my heart goes out to layne's family and friends.

Heroin doesn't discriminate. But even more so, pain and hurt doesn't discriminate. Sure, we all deal in different ways and some of us have more and less pain than others to deal with... but in the end it's hard to judge others unless you really know what their lives were like and what options they did and didn't have.
I'm sorry about Joey, and all the other non-famous people most of us will never hear of who will live in hell and die in hell in heroin's arms. Glad it feels good to be alive today Ardy, I feel the same way. Lucky to be alive too. And to not have a needle in my arm. To really understand that I have other options.
The people must have something good to read

If I listened long enough to you
I'd find a way to believe that it's all true
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe
Someone like you makes it hard to live without
somebody else
Someone like you makes it easy to give
never think about myself
If I gave you time to change my mind
I'd find a way just to leave the past behind
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe
If I listened long enough to you
I'd find a way to believe that it's all true

so.......
you thought you could take
the wild ride
break the horse of all his pride
he took you
to the sunsets of your mind
caught in the reins
caught in the reins
caught in the reins
to straddle the needle
and ride the pleasures it contains
inject yourself with hope
from the spike of golden dreams
feel the winds of joy across your face
as you master this great steed
caught in the reins
caught in the reins
caught in the reins
thrown off
by the bucking bronco
landing beside
the broken bodies of
those who came before you
their cries echo in the wind
swirling all around you
caught in the reins
caught in the reins
caught in the reins
the horse stands tall above you
driving your face into the ground
with it's hoof
feeding you with misery
you beg to suck it's dick
to taste the opiate sperm
swallow it deep inside you
feel it ease your constant pain
caught in the reins
caught in the reins
caught in the reins
he turns and runs thru pastures
of your failings
your caught in the reins
dragged along the pathways
of his choosing
feeling the piles of shit cake onto your face
as you're mastered by this steed
caught in the reins
caught in the reins
caught in the reins
of addiction

Alice In Chains Singer Found Dead
Updated 15:33 PDT Sat, Apr 20 2002
SEATTLE (AP) _ Layne Staley's death may have been as dark as the lyrics he sang for grunge rock supergroup Alice in Chains.
Staley, 34, lay dead in his north Seattle apartment for two weeks, his body surrounded by heroin-injection paraphernalia, before a relative discovered him, authorities said Sunday.
