have i told you about Asher's kindergarten teacher? she's like barely 23 or so and the lead singer in a punk rock band. i just got back to work after taking Ash to school so the combined kindergarten classes (he goes M,W, every other Fri, they go the other days) could record a song they wrote about kindergarten with the teacher.... I didn't really know what to expect- i had only read the words on the sheet she sent home, hadn't actually heard it and couldn't get Ash to sing it for me. it was so stinkin' cute! 30 kindergarten kids singing along with her on her sparkly silver electric guitar and her husband on snare drum to this total kindergarten-goes-punk rock song about how kindergarten rules and Columbia is the best school ever. tooooo funny, and they're going to make it into a cd!
i wish i had a punk rock kindergarten teacher. mine was like 87 years old and she kept the paddle hanging from the side of her desk /images/mad.gif /images/crazy.gif

that reminds me of that Full House episode when uncle Jesse helps out in Michelle's kindergarten class. he brought his guitar along and the teacher wanted him to play the typical children's songs but uncle J wanted to play some cool songs for the kids. you know, to keep them hip. Aaron, Michelle's bratty classmate said, "I bet he doesn't know any cool songs". and I think uncle Jesse replied with something like, "I know plenty of good songs, huh". man, that was a classic episode.

for 4 years my Kindergarten teacher sent me a letter asking me how I was doing. How cool is that?
She was nice, I had some really good teachers when I was little. My first grade teacher was so awesome. Mr. Zigler. Cool beans.
Sandi, yer gonna have to rip it off the cd when you get it, I wanna rock out to it!

i have to say that the administrators
of that school should be praised as well...
it all starts at the top. when "they" allow
a teacher the freedom like they've given Asher's
teacher (a punk rocker!!)..then nothing but good
things come out of it. so sad to see potential
wasted and the "fun" taken out of learning just
because the tight-ass-higher-ups are afraid...
the benefit asher and his mates are getting
from his teacher are off the charts! /images/smile.gif
rock on, wee ones...

i dunno, something like that... there was more to it but i don't remember /images/crazy.gif. it was too funny listening to all their little voices.
Ardy: you are sooooo right. I'm fairly impressed with the open-mindedness of the Bellingham school district. Bellingham is pretty cool about its schools (and its parks.... parks are sacred in this town! one of the reasons i love living here.)

my girls' elementary school is a focus school..
a school of the arts...infusing music, drama, art
in the curriculum....now, we don't have any punk rocker
teachers but i love the way they teach there... and they
have total support of the principal and administration...

Sandi you and Asher got sooooo lucky for him to have such a cool teacher. That has got to be so adorable to hear those kids rock out /images/smile.gif
ummm, one question though do we live in the same town???.....cause it's been my experiance that although some of the teachers in this school district are very cool the administrators are shitty and don't care about the kids cause they know they can't get fired because of their tenure.....in all of the years that my kids have been in this school district I have only come across one administrator that actually likes his job and the kids....that being Steve Clark at BHS
I hope that the superintendant Dale Kinsley doesn't find out about it cause that man has a bug the size of godzilla up his ass

Asher's gonna be a cool young man! I'm sure he's already a cool kiddie. Punkrock schoolteachers... maybe we all grew up in the wrong generation?
The people must have something good to read
On a Sunday
my kg teacher had big puffy 80's hair. that's all i remember. i do remember my 2nd grade teacher though. i was sitting in our reading group making weird noises with my mouth. somehow I figured out how to make a melody with my newly discovered noise, so i was "singing" yankee doodle and she kept telling me to stop but I couldn't resist, so I ended up staying after school. she made me make the noise for about 30 minutes straight until I "got it out of my system" and broke down into a veritible ocean of tears and snot. then I walked home alone.
I guess I learned my lesson. Reading was so boring.

You know Sandi, every picture that I see of Asher, reminds me of pictures of me, both now and when I was his age. I just laughed my ass off at this picture because this is a face I always get yelled at for making when someone is taking my picture. Cracks me up.
Ardy, yer daughter is absolutly beautiful!! What a cutie patooty! /images/smile.gif

That be some hardcore shi-at. I requested "Even Flow" be played during a sing-a-long deal in grade 4, but to no avail. There perhaps is hope for upcoming generations.
