I've been surrounded by Canadians my entire life.....My Mom's side of the tribe is all from Canada.......they're all still up there...I'm the blacksheep, the only American!

Growing up in NYC was rough with a Canadian Mother, I'd come home.....(now, you've gotta use your imagination here, put on the N.Y. accent...)
I'd say the word....'off'...although it would come out...'Awff'.....
My Mom would say....'No, No little broken, the proper pronunciation of the word is 'Aff eh?'
ba: 'Ok Mom...'
then ba would say...'oranges'....it would come 'Awringes'...
Mom: 'No, No....the proper pronunciation of the word is 'Oooringes eh?'.....

the worst one has to be the word...'About'...
ok, I would say the word like everyone else on the planet....everyone else except a .....CANADIAN....../images/wink.gif
Mom: 'No, no.....it's said 'Aboot eh?'

so you see? Can you imagine the trauma I've incurred? Growing up in NYC with no decipherabal accent? I lived in The Bronx for 8 years at one point.....some chick says to me....
"Are you from England??" "England?", I say....'No, I'm from Yonkers!"

people say, 'are you from the midwest?'....
'are you from anywhere that has no accent?'....
'are you from CANADA?'....

heh.....heh......
