Study: Sex No Longer Worth the Trouble
LOS ANGELES- On Friday, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center researchers reavealed the results of a study finding that sex is no longer worth the trouble.
According to the study, sex, which enjoyed a brief period of popularity in the late '60's, as Puritan repression gave way to carelessness and freedom, is now more trouble than it's worth: Sexually transmitted deseases like herpes and AIDS, as well as other factors, have made it a cause for more dread than excitement.
THe study also faults the confusion of gender roles wrought by the feninist upheavals of the '60's, a new inabiltity to verbally communicate because of the presumed "political incorrectness," and the undesirable hormonal effects of the birth-control pill.
The leader of the research team, Dr. Larry Dunning, is not surprised by the study's results.
Said Dunning: "There was a window, just after the invention of the pill and just before the onslaught of the new generation of sexually transmitted diseases, in which sex was spontaneous and fun. Now it is neither. It is a joyless, even morbid affair."
UCLA researchers recommend that Americans spend their time engaging in endeavors more worthwhile than sex, such as working overtime, managing their investment portfolios, or watching television.
