I just realised this last night while floating around petetownshend.com...I was reading for a little while, and thought I would check out the pictures from Royal Albert Hall again. I saw them when they were put up a couple of weeks ago...and saw this pic of Ed...

<img src="http://www.petetownshend.com/pr_images/281100021336.jpg"

Well....to make a long story short...(you know how little I have to say and how to the point I always am..../images/wink.gif/images/wink.gif
I look at the picture a bit more closely last night....and I click on the photo to enlarge it so I can read what his shirt says other than 'The Who'
It also says Madison Square Garden Sept. 13 through the 18th?....'79
I can't remember how many shows they did on that particular stint....
but here comes the cool/images/cool.gif/images/cool.gif part...

Guess who was at the September 17th show in 1979 at Madison Square Garden?

me!

Do you think Ed would perhaps tell me where I can get me one of those them thar shirts? OR..........Do you think he might give me his????/images/laugh.gif/images/laugh.gif/images/laugh.gif

I was in Section H, 15th row Orchestra....Perf. 4
(I'm one of those nutty music/breathe/oxygen/breathe/life is music/nuts and still have all of my old ticket stubs.....

That night was the first time I ever saw The Who...and it's the show I've talked about in the past where I danced on my seat the whole friggin' night!/images/smile.gif/images/smile.gif/images/smile.gif

Oh, I love that story so much, broken! Thanks for that. & what a cool photo of Ed. If I had a shirt like that, I would most certainly give it to you, my sweet. He seems very proud of it. What would be the odds, from his teenage mind perspective, that he would ever, ever, ever get to know Pete as he does now...& get his help when he needed it the most, again. That just blows me away...

Love,
Ger

I know....he's such a lucky guy!/images/smile.gif/images/smile.gif/images/smile.gif
I mean, think about it....I don't know what I would ever do if I met Pete...I'd probably want to kiss his hand like the Pope or something. His music and lyrics were life blood for me. All of it, I suppose that's one of the reasons I went on a giant Who binge today. I never tire of it....Their music has aged so well over the years. To me, it's as fresh as it was over 20 years ago.
I was 16 years old when I saw that show....The Who, as a whole, was my anthem.......

Yep...that Eddie is one lucky fellow....and as you said, to think of the wonderful words of advice Pete had for him this past summer with the tragedy that occured in Denmark....
unbelievable....and Pete's words during our youth.....I'm glad he has such a good friend in him!/images/smile.gif/images/smile.gif

ps.......thank you Ger, for offering me your shirt!

Nice pics Oblio......I've seen these pics before...very cool Maple Leafs Jersey! Check out Pete in that photo....he kicks such ass!

No one will jump all over you Oblio.....as a matter of fact....Pearl Jam sucks.....I only listen to them hoping they'll do a Who cover!
heh......heh.........../images/wink.gif/images/wink.gif/images/wink.gif/images/wink.gif/images/wink.gif!!!!!!!!!

To put up multiple pics in the same thread, simply put in the addy.......allow a couple of spaces for the next addy and so on....
that's it! So easy even I can do it!
I wouldn't know jack-shit if it weren't for RrVw teaching me last year....she even taught me how to cut and paste!/images/laugh.gif

Eddie does look proud of that shirt doesn't he? He's a lucky lug-nut...........owning that shirt AND playin' reindeer games with THE FRIGGIN' WHO!/images/laugh.gif/images/laugh.gif/images/laugh.gif

your too cool. :)
Ya know...doesn't it make you feel good as a fan
knowing that the guys you totaly admire and obviosly obsess over (does our frequenting pits such as these qualify as obsessing on some level :) are themselves devoted fans. I always think that when i see ed going nuts for the Who...hey,
he's a fan too. Cool.
I first saw The Who in 1996...summer time, sporting my platforms and hippie dress like it was 1979...he he he...what a night...
How cool that you share a concert memory with ed.

I just found the set list from that night....

Check this bad boy out!

(part of the review is in German....so unless you can read German...just skip to the set....if you can read German....perhaps you can translate what it says for us!)

New York, Madison Square Gardens
Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, Pete Townshend, Kenney Jones, John Rabbit Bundrick
Pete cuts his hand. Pete Townshend verletzt sich während des Konzertes die Hand; sie mu? genäht werden. Roger, John, Kenney und Rabbit jammen darauf alleine weiter. Bei Magic Bus steigt Townshend wieder ein.
[ Top | Review | Report ] Substitute, I Can't Explain, Baba O'Riley, The Punk And The Godfather, Boris The Spider, My Wife, Sister Disco, Behind Blue Eyes, Music Must Change, Drowned, Who Are You, Harmonica Solo/Drum Solo, Bass Solo, My Generation, Magic Bus, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, 5.15, Long Live Rock, My Generation, Shakin' All Over, Please Don't Touch, Sweets For My Sweet, Pretty Vacant, Cat's In The Cupboard, Won't Get Fooled Again, The Real Me, Sparks, Big Boss Man, Dance It Away.

Does that set just knock you on your ass or what? Now can you see why I danced on my seat the whole night?

Layla...I can't imagine Ed was at any of those shows...I mean, he was only around 14 and he lived in Chicago or San Diego when he was a kid right?

I think he bought that shirt just to torture me!/images/wink.gif/images/wink.gif/images/wink.gif heh......heh.......

brokenarrow...this is a WAY COOL WHO STORY!!!!

(I actually thought this was going to be a Christmas thread....lol!)

Anyway.....just another uncanny connection!!!

Are you sure you didn't get one of those shirts way back then? Maybe Ed *ahem* "borrowed" it when he was at your place last year??
Maybe he wanted to impress Pete with it?
