Hey Guys....I was just sitting here looking at my Christmas Tree, and I got to thinking.....there are so many ways to decorate it.....I think I need a new look.....I always go with the Traditional Tree.....multi-colored lights, assorted homemade and sentimental ornaments, and an angel on top.....
I know there are many decorating themes.....how do you decorate yours? I need some ideas.....I think I like the Winter theme...white lights, red ornamnents and pointsettas.....but I think I would get sick of all white lights after a while....any ideas or suggestions??
BTW....
To make this PJ related.....let me tell you what was "IN MY TREE" this year.....
SPIDERS....TONS OF THEM!!!!
(so I am now the proud owner of an artificial tree!!!)

Hi yourself rvm!
Hmmmmm...the past few years we've used red and white lights with silver and red ornaments. It makes a very pretty tree..oh yeah, we always use that spray snow on it, too. Puts a pretty white blanket on your tree/images/smile.gif
Okay, I'm a really big help with my original idea...NOT! But I had to respond when I saw your pretty tree/images/smile.gif/images/smile.gif/images/smile.gif
Yikes...you got bugs...in your tree /images/wink.gif
Watch out for those red mosquitoes, mkay???

hmmmmmmmmm............
I think, cocktail weenies on a white tree with blue lights would be an IDEAL Christmas tree......could get into the spirit of The Great American Vote.....you know, kind of a red, white and blue thing.....and then you could hang white rectangles on it, tell folks they're all of those misplaced 'chads'!/images/wink.gif/images/wink.gif
either that or this nifty hula-hoop tree I found for you....

The guy that runs the place I get my hair cut at, always has a cool theme of some type...He used to be in charge of all the windows for Le Chateau way back, so he has alot of fun...
I think the funniest tree he ever did was a silver foil tree...you know the kind from the late 50's early 60's....(we had one!)
but he had the big lights on it....all blue, with big plastic red lobsters all over it....he found the lobsters...(they were some type of mold...) at a restaurant supply place...they use them to make a yucky aspic/jello..................
seriously though.......our tree is loaded with handmade ornaments.....alot of popsicle stick snowflakes covered in glitter....wood cutouts that we painted with the kids.....sentimental ornaments and all of the old plastic gold, silver and red balls my Mom used to have....
pinecones......we have alot of pinecones.....
it's a real kid, Mr. and Mrs. Claus type of tree...with colored lights.
We went the white light route when we first moved down here.....I could handle it for about 5 years, but then last year we had to put colored lights back on!

For the last few years I've gone with a sort of silver and white theme with just a hint of color. (I feel like one of those artist guys teaching on TV /images/laugh.gif). I use 3 or 4 strings of white lights and 1 string of colored lights. I've collected all kinds of silver and white ornaments and I use a lot of crystals. I have about a dozen pastel ornaments (again, just that hint of color /images/smile.gif). And I am one of those crazy people who put the tinsel on ONE AT A TIME! No throwing clumps on the tree for me! I arrange them, I can literally spend hours doing this. They have to catch the light just so. I want that tree to sparkle!
As for the tree itself, I don't get it until just a few days before christmas. This is a tradition that stems from my poor student days when I would wait until the tree lots had closed on christmas eve and I would "liberate" one of the leftovers. /images/smile.gif I always try to find one that nobody else wants. (One year a kid actually said "look mom, she's got a Charlie Brown tree.") Then it is my mission to make it the most beautiful tree in the world. I love to just sit and watch it twinkle. Taking it down is always hard. Don't tell anyone, but once I left one up until February. Then I took it out in the middle of the night and left it on my neighbor's curb. /images/shocked.gif/images/laugh.gif Yes, I know I'm strange./images/smile.gif/images/wink.gif

Oh, the silver aluminum trees! We had one, too. With the little color wheel. I loved that tree! I actually saw one in a store a few years ago. Do you know how much they cost now? About $200! Jeez, I guess people are really willing to pay for their nostalgia.

I have two strings of white lights and two strings of colored lights. Most of my ornaments are (I shit you not) mother of pearl /images/smile.gif.
I have like 6 strands of mother of pearl beads. With mother of pearl icicles, angels, doves, and raindeer. I also have a number of ornaments that are made of white cloth with a shimmery mother of pearl hugh with ribbons and pearls; there are bells, boxes and rectangles, traditional balls.
I have a white dove from a flower arrangement from my first boyfriend's father funeral.
And a lighted angel on top.
I have used just white lights some years but I like mixing some colored lights in the past couple years.

oh first of all...spiders! oh no...i started itching the second i read that!!!!!
...we do your traditional family orientated tree...old sentamental ornaments...we even
have a "land of misfit ornaments" on our tree
where the real decrepit old ones hide out...ya
know so only we know they are there...be we havn't
the heart to not put them out at all! And it
makes us laugh every year putting them out. Used to do color lights and did white this year...but
i kinda miss the color lights.
I also do a little tree with old fashioned santa's
and angle ornaments...it is my favorite. :)

wicca nad evenkat....I never thought of combining white and colored lights!!! Thank you...that sounds very pretty!!! For some reason, I always think it has to be "either/or".....I feel so "enlightened" now!!!
evenkat.....I love mother of pearl too....your tree sounds elegant....as does yours wicca and Edhead!!!
wicca...you are one of those crazy people who put tinsel on ONE STRAND AT A TIME???? WOW!!!! I never could undersatand that....never had the patience actually.....it was always 3 or 4 strands per branch for me.....
brokenarrow.....your coctail weenie theme.....seems that would suit oblio's tree much better than mine!!! /images/wink.gif Your tree sounds a lot like mine.....(which doesn't surprise me)..a real "homey, old fashioned look"..../images/smile.gif
layla.....no more spiders for me.....we undecorated that tree so fast and threw it outside!!! I still shiver when I think about it....that is why I have a beautiful new ARTIFICIAL tree now.....it was a TRAUMATIC experience!
I laughed when I read about your old ornaments....we do the same thing...hide them in the back!!! Just can't seem to part with them though!!!
Well, thanks everyone....I think next year I am going to stay with my traditional theme, however I am adding white lights to it!!! I love the elegant looks of some of your trees, but I just can't see myself parting with my Campbell's soup ornaments anytime soon! /images/wink.gif /images/smile.gif
