I have a 56k connection...
My ISP is now offering ISDN

what is the difference?

is it faster? do I need something other than my 56k modem?

does this service usually cost more?

I'd call them and ask, but the office is closed right now./images/wink.gif

I am not entirely sure what the difference is, but I do know that an ISDN is much faster than a regular 56K modem connection. It would probably end up costing more as well. I have a modem connection, and its pretty slow most of the time. I always thought that it depended on your processor speed, but that isn't the case when your connection is slow. Hope this helps a little. :)

JC,

ISDN isn't *THAT* much faster than 56k. With ISDN you get 2 64k channels that can combine to make 128k of total connection speed. The price you'll pay for just about double the speed isn't worth it in my opinion. You'll need to get a special ISDN line installed in your house and you'll also need to buy an ISDN modem.

The things you should want to get are DSL or cable. Both of those might cost you a little more, but the speed increase is phenominal. With DSL or cable you can easily connect at speeds 100 times faster than 56k. I personally have cable, and I'm usually able to download many things at 100k/s whereas with a 56 modem I could barely get 4k/s. I pay about $20 more ($40) than a regular dial-up acct for my cable. Well worth it in my opinion.

Hope that helps. :)

thanks to the both of you/images/smile.gif

unfortunately, nobody around here has cable or DSL yet....as far as I know.....

and I don't wanna fork out the extra cash for the ISDN setup

looks like I'll stick with 56k for a while

Thanks again/images/smile.gif
