I'm sure most of you saw the setlist from Groundwork last night. You'll see that Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan joined Ed on stage during Long Road. I'm sure all of you have heard Rahat's uncle Nusrat perfrom on Long Road and Face of Love from the Dead Man Walking Soundtrack. It is also believed that Nusrat is the inspiration for Who You Are on No Code.

Well, what you might not know is Rahat is now continuing his uncle Nusrat's legacy and that's why he performed w/ Ed and tha gang yesterday.

If you're wondering what Rahat and Ed sound like together you check check out this video clip of them performing Long Road together some time in the past. It is here. You are encouraged to see the entire video featuring Tim Robbins, Ed and Rick Rubin taking about Nusrat and Rahat. You can watch that here.

Phew.... Nusrat, Rahat ... too many wacky names for me.... /images/smile.gif

the pakistani gov't is probably enthralled with him. Pakistan is more liberal with art, music, etc than other muslim countries. other muslim countries don't really care about pakistan because they just see them as being ex-Indians and not true people of islam. Although, at this time... everyone in that region is banding together sort of like all the subpops of the US are united.

If you look at the credits in the score (and soundtrack, too?) for DMW, you'll see that Rahat also performed with his uncle and another family member, Farrukh, on The Face of Love and Long Road.
:o)

Let the rock machine roll. . .

Since I haven't seen it and haven't heard/seen the interviews, can someone please post what Ed has to say about Nusrat? Thanks in advance!
