this morning was picture day for my girls (9 & 7). last night we figured out what they were going to wear (a big deal for girliegirls). so this morning, em(7) got her jeans and pumpkin tshirt on...no problems. liv(9) had a bit of a problem. she is at that age where she is becomming aware of what "others" think of her...and she decided that she didnt like her purple skirt/top wasnt 'cool enough' and she wanted to wear SOMETHING COOL LIKE EMILY /images/shocked.gif
so, i could tell she was feelin the pressure. so i sat her down and talked to her about how she felt and why...she looks at me with those eyes and says she feels like a DORK in this outfit...well, then of course i think of jake highway the biggest dork i know /images/wink.gif. and i was able to have a great conversation about how we ALL feel like dorks and actually we all ARE dorks but its ok. its ok to be a dork. you just cant let that negative feeling rule your life and your choices.
so she left for school, in her (reallycute) purple skirt and shirt, with her pink sneakers and her hair in braids...probablly thinking that her mom is a dork but feeling a bit better about her self and her outfit, which, after all IS the key to life, isnt it?
so, thanks jake, for celebrating your dorkiness and helping us all get in touch with our inner-dork /images/laugh.gif
