Well, I finally got around to buying Bayleaf this weekend and I'm giving it a spin now... I'm not sure if I like it yet... it's.... kinda weird... no?
What are y'all's opinions of Stoney's little release?

My first impression was "this is it?"...okay...but after I listened to it a while, I really started to like some of the songs...still don't like 'Cadillac'...and I never will. 'Pigeon' I liked after the first listen as well as 'Bayleaf'. Stone's voice doesn't sound like "Stone on 'Mankind' " to me anyway. I had downloaded all the tracks and listened to them before the album went on sale, and I liked it enough to actually buy a copy. Everyone should buy a copy just to see pictures of Stone trimming his nose hairs and brushing his teeth, if not for anything else /images/smile.gif/images/wink.gif

I haven't bought it yet. There are way too many CD's to buy and not enough money. I've d/l it though, and was instantly hooked on Pigeon as well. I'll pick it up at Christmas, when I get those gift certificates. The album art is a little weird. But, I WAS with someone who bought it, and I didn't see pics of Stone trimming his nose hairs. Now I feel jipped!

Yeah... it was different, to be sure, but I like some of the songs after one and a half listens. Margaret Ann, you dislike Cadillac that much? It's my favorite song from the album right now...

Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one that felt that way. "This is it?" was also kinda my impression. I don't know what to think of it, although that "Every Family" and a few others struck me as pretty good right away.
But I'll have to listen a few more times, I think.

to be fair, i'm giving it another listen now...i'll concede that it is a "fun song"...i have a smile on my face while listening to it, but only because it has that cheesy, synthesizerish drum loop bass line thingy going on...i'm still going to skip it when i listen to Bayleaf though...

Yeah, I was a little underwhelmed by the record the first time I heard it too...I loved 'Bore Me', 'Pigeon' and the Youngesque title track from the start, but the rest.....I just never thought i'd hear Stone playing a reggae tune...but it grew on me after a few listens, and now I pretty much love it. It's still probably my least favourite Pearl Jam sideproject though...

Y'know i'm starting to think that the server errors over there are deliberate...just so Sony can try to sell us the latest Mudvayne record...it's a scam I tells ya...

Yeah, I think they're letting people download the new single for free or something...might have to do that, although I haven't heard a Dylan song post-1976...and his voice sounded pretty ropey on that Unplugged gig...anyone heard the new Dylan record?

Yeah, i've heard a lot of good things about the new record...might have to pick it up...the guy IS a lyrical genius after all...no-one has sung about heartbreak as eloquently as Dylan did on 'Blood on the Tracks'...

I love 'Bringing it all Back Home'...you've got the electric first half, the acoustic second half, and the best lyrics of his psychedelic era...plus 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' kicks ass...
