death
staring back at me
from eyes filled
with a hatred
that is masked
hidden behind
smiling faces
i see the look
of accomplishment
of pride
for a job well done
holding hands
at the saturday social
the women
suck down mint juleps
trying to fight the heat
the men sweaty
from the task
now done
quench their thirst
by licking the blood
that is on their hands
in the trees
the bodies hang
from creaking ropes
twisting in the breeze
