800-900 of 'em were on hand yesterday afternoon. They were expecting a demonstration against the meeting of the Western hemisphere's finance ministers, so they came out in full force. Of course, I only heard about said meeting AFTER I decided to walk through the men in blue. They mentioned the whole meeting in yesterday's morning paper, but I had a lab so I didn't get a chance to peruse throught it. So anyway, me and my friend are walking up there to hit the nearest McDonald's and all I see is that the street has been closed off (this was a major street so you notice it right away) and all the news station vans parked with cameramen everywhere. The police barricaded the intersection and were in full riot gear. Some cops were kinda on this perch, and on the news later, I saw them armed with rifles with rubber bullets. I at first thought it was some Anthrax scare again, but they were still letting people walk through, so it couldn't have been. Curiosity getting the better of me, we walked behind the barricaded intersection only to see 2 Greyhound buses full of cops!! There was a special task force vehicle and a guy they were hooking up with the the video surveillance. Then, there were cops on bikes and we walked past them, only to have one of them stop us and ask us what was in our backpacks. "Books." "Lemme see." So we opened them up, started pulling out the lab coats, pencil cases, etc, then he was like "It's okay, just making sure you're not carrying any bombs in there."
AND, yesterday morning in bio class, we had an interesting event. It's a big class so if ppl are advertising or something they always hit our class to recruit ppl. Anyway, we're also beside the crazy engineers, who have nothing better to do but pull pranks all the time. During lecture, we had guys streaking through the class and a full orchestral band overtake the lecture. So yesterday, (I sit in the aisle), there was this guy who ran right beside me who was on fire and screaming. His whole back, and his legs were in flames and he ran screaming to the front of the class, where he jumped up and down a little, which extinguished the flames. Only then did I know it was a joke. I can't tell you how scared I was! I was half-sleeping when this madman comes in. And the scariest part is that nobody moved, so if he really was on fire, he'd just die in front of us. Damn those engineers and their pranks!
I'd say that was an interesting day, wouldn't you?
