a=1.5
b=2.5
c=9.5

Tis okay Poopster/images/smile.gif You're both right though. After consulting with peeps from coast to coast (I e-mailed my friends on the east coast to try and solve it too) this is what I found myself. This is the scenario:

We have a c=11.......a b=4............b c=12. Okay so we know that both
A and B can not exceed 4 for the amount of combinations which would equal 4.

a0 b4=4.........a1 b3=4.........a2 b2=4..........a3 b1=4...........a4 b0=4

Then we get to this scenario:

if a=0 then c=11 then b=1....FALSE b/c 0 1 doesn't equal 4
if a=1 then c=10 then b=2....FALSE b/c 1 2 doesn't equal 4
if a=2 then c=9 then b=3......FALSE b/c 2 3 doesn't equal 4
if a=3 then c=8 then b=4......FALSE b/c 3 4 doesn't equal 4

So, if my calcualtions are correct then that means without any of the integers being negative this is unsolvable!!!!!!!!!

wow..that was more info than i needed to know but thanks..man you never said we could use decimals...cheater, you made me think it was some calc problem when all it was was 3rd grade math....

thats just the thing...it isnt even for a math prof. my boyfriend tutors a student in a high school remedial math class. they couldnt figure it out...and i felt pretty stupid when i couldnt either...had to solve it...
my question is this...what the hell is a problem like this doing in a remedial class? sucks huh?
