I woke up this morning to see that my mom flagged a page in the newest Rolling Stone. The page had a picture of Ed dressed up as Devo, and it was an article about the Halloween show. I was excited, but after reading it, it was a huge let down, not on RS's part, but Stone's. I tried to find a link to it, just in case anyone here doens't have a RS near by, but couldn't.
If anyone can find it and post it, I would appreciate it. Maybe I'm over-racting. But I really wanted to say was "F'You too Stone!!" But I won't cause I love the guy!

There's a blurb on the rolling stone website about the halloween show but no quote from Stone. What did it say?

One direct quote which kinda rubbed me the wrong way was:
" The fan club can be pretty voracious in the terms of 'play this, play that'. First we have to say 'Fuck You. We're never going to do that." Then after a while we go, 'Oh, Fuck, we're not mad at you, sorry'".
I read that and I was like "WTF"? That's kinda whiney!!
Then there was another blurb from him about how old songs create a cool atmosphere, but then he "knows" that some people leave pissed cause they didn't hear 'Jeremy'....and we heard that on Halloween!
There also was another blurb from him about the Devo get up that made him sound kinda whiney. "It's hot" "It was the thickest plastic imaginable" yada, yada, yada. I could tell that he was pissed to be in it just by his body language, seeing it live. He kicked that get up off so fast! Everyone else seemed to play with it and have fun.
I dunno, maybe it was just my interpretation.....

Yeah, I'm not sure Stone's sarcasm translates that well on the page. None of that really bothers me, in fact, I'd pretty much say the same thing about the fanclub. We are a bunch of whiny demanding bitches most of the time. Not here really, but you know, over there...
If I were them I'd have a love/hate relationship with the hardcore fans too... there are some folks verging on nutjob but those nutjobs shell out a lot of love for the band not to mention dough... And even if Stone hated every second of the Devo costume he still put it on. Maybe being hot makes him crankypants but he was a good sport in the end.
I can't believe I'm defending Stone. Never thought that would happen. Although with his new long hair and his involvement with Conservation International his dreaminess factor has gone way up. Going over to the Stone side is some new unchartered phase in my fandom... dundundun..

all i can say is i know musicians don't like it too well when people constantly yell out what they want to hear... like you're a human jukebox.
and some people don't understand that

well, i hate halloween and dressing up as something i am not...i feel like a joke...
old songs are old songs - that's why you make new music...Ray Lamontagne said it best - "Why don't you go home and listen to the record."

and i love stone. i love that he builds straw-bale houses (i did that) and i love his hippy/conservative thang.
it wasnt like he could be the only one on stage without a costume. boom wore one for god's sake. BOOM! stone is the youngest one out there....
lol, and who could have possibly been in a bad mood after that ending that night? huh guys? i mean, just looking at the pictures of the confetti and balloons just puts a huge smile on my face.
oh, and i took two balloons home and they are STILL blown up almost like the night i brought them home!!! wierd, huh? they are MAGIC balloons

This is why I love you Cath... you're so enthusiastic!
I don't whine for nothing. Im a happy fan regardless of what they play...but.....if you write a song that's "rare", you darn well better be prepared to play it at some point in your career....If you bitch about playing songs that someone *might* wanna hear at some point, don't be in a band!
