Come Monday I'm gonna be a gym demon!
There has been no updates on the 60% enrollment, and another twist has been added, if you have a spouse of significant other they can sign up in a seperate contest and win their own prizes... stupid if ya ask me, but whatever. :)
I've also heard a rumor that a department or two have been purposely gaining weight before the start of the contest to increase their chances of winning, and the shit-kicker is, they aren't even heavy to begin with.. so why bother... it's insulting to us robust people, well atleast to me. I hope whatever weight they did gain sticks to their guts like glue as I walk away with a prize!
My work schedule has been rearranged and approved to allow 2 hours of gym time in the morning. I couldn't swing it if I kept my current hours from 8-5, 4 hours at night, plus my 7 workout classes through my school district starting in February...... bring it on baby... bring it the heck on!!!!

I bet those people have no idea how hard it is. They'll probably end up developing bad eating habits from all the fatty, sugary crap they'll be jamming down their gullets. I know I did.

Well today's the big day.........
Mixed feelings about the whole situation now. Alot of people are dropping out even before it begins. We got a memo that are raises will be "froze" because of the "economy". It's a shield unfortunately, they aren't having any problems. Anyways, alot of us are conflicted because many people depends on their raises to get by, but on the other hand, they'll throw $10,000 at someone for losing weight? Me thinks this is a bit wrong.
I'll forge ahead just to get healthy and back into the swing of things. I could give a shit about the money now.
I was all ready for the gym this morning when I went to bed last night, but had alot of trouble sleeping and didn't get some serious shut eye until 1:30. I can't function on 3 1/2 hours of sleep. No way!

well, even my little ob/gyn's office has laid off peeps (i'm down to 2 days now) and wages/expenses are frozen BUT one of the docs just went to vegas for a week, another just went to hawaii, and 3 of the docs just got brand new blackberry's....all on the company's dime. a bit hard to swallow, yes.....
if you can, i'd try to find out exactly where this $10K is coming from...a sponsorship? donation? grant? and is it truly guaranteed to the winner, is this in writing somewheres.....?
BUT - HOWEVER - NEVERTHELESS.....
it's not about the money....keep on keepin on for YOUR benefit....
and the benefits are many. this you already know :)
stay strong...

The scale was a bloody nightmare yesterday, I've put back on like over 30 pounds. It didn't really hit me until later in the day, at the scale I was just itchin to get this darn competition started.. Seems like Ive been talking about it forever.
My old work neighbor from the respiratory department recruited me to be on the "purple" team. We're both big fans of the show, and we both lost enourmous amounts of weight during the same time period. So we'll be a good team for support and cheering on. :) She even made us shirts with the biggest loser logo on them and our names, I'm so proud! I wore mine to the gym this morning.
Another dude I work with used to be a personal trainer, and he got permission from the company to start a bootcamp two nights a week on premises. He's an awesome guy and good looking to boot, hahaha! But that didn't have any imput into my decision... ha! That starts next week. I just hope they turn off the security camera's... I don't need the owners watching me do jumping jacks and lunges. :)
The only thing that kinda irked me was that they had everyone's name on a spreadsheet that we had to initial after the got weighed. They wrote down our weight next to our name, but when I initialed, I saw everyone else's weight. I didn't gawk because that's just rude and an invasion of privacy, but in the thick if things I didn't realize until later in the day that I saw everyone elses info. Some people said that HR covered up the rest of the sheet above and below where people had to sign, and some said that everything was left in the light of day. I guess it depends on how busy the office was. When I went, they were slow, so they could have taken the time to cover it.
I'll cut them some slack because it was the first time, but if it happens at the next weigh in, I'm opening my trap.
Don't mess with the purple team!

Does anyone know a remedy for soooorrreee shins? Heating pads??? Muscle ointment?
It was the first week of our after work excercise class and my shins are killing me. I'm having fun and all, but we're doing jumping jacks in the warehouse on a concrete floor and holy shit... Im feeling it right now. Next week I'll ask him if I can just shuffle my feet. I think the pressure of my weight up against the hardness of the floor is too much.

Awwww, Broken :) I think you're awesome too!
I'm still feeling it today. I took a power walk on my first break and it was a no-no. The soreness has been on and off all day. I took a slow walk on my second break and I felt a bit better.
He had us all over last night. We ran laps in the warehouse and did cardio up and down the stairwells. Yikes!!!
My boss called me beautiful today but she said I'll be stunning when its all said and done. She also said I'm the biggest threat and I should grab the opportunity and run.... hahahahaha. She's a boss and can't take sides, but everyone has their hearts behind me and that makes me feel just wonderful... I can't let anyone down now.... they're all rooting for me. :)

Okay.... so after the second weigh in.. I lost 5 pounds in a month.
Not quite exactly what I was gunning for, but its a start. I can't seem to keep a grip on enthusiasm anymore, for anything. I had a bad cold last week and my gym membership ran out... I cant sign up cause my wallet is drier than a bone.
Alot of people dropped astronomical numbers.. 12, 14 pounds. Although most of that could have been water. My body is used to losing weight, so I probably lost real weight and not water, like some of those people above.
I had to go back to working 8-5. The gym in the morning was good for a jumpstart on my day, but not being able to pay my bills is a more important task to take care of. That extra hour every day really helped me $$$$ wise.
July is a looooong ways away. Here's to April bringing a better weigh in! Lord help me please!!!!

Keep at it. Just focus on your own journey. The others who have never tried this kind of thing before are still in their excitement phase, and all it takes is one thing to screw up their routine - even if it's a simple thing - and they'll be hard-pressed to get back into it. (Trust me - http://hfboards.com/images/smilies/anon.gif )
I bet you'll find yours soon - maybe when the weather perks up a bit? When playoff time rolls around? Try using Marty Brodeur for inspiration. http://hfboards.com/images/smilies/stanleycup.jpg
(Hope HF doesn't mind me hotlinking ... I love you, HF!)

It's only the beginning of March, a sucky beginning at that. It's so cold, hibernation is the name of the game right now. But just think, in a couple of weeks that's all going to change. It's slowly going to start getting nicer out, more sunshine....warmer temps, and with that comes even more motivation.
You're just at the beginning of your journey. Never get discouraged. Cara, 5 pounds is awesome. Remember how you were feeling before the work challenge even started.
kick ass my friend! :devious::devious::bigsm:

I "heart" Marty :)
Alot of people didn't come to work yesterday because of the snow and weigh ins continued... one lady lost 25 flippin' pounds!
I had my workout after work with trainer jim and I wanted to puke. We were working on the stairs and whole room started to spin at the top and my knees started to shake. I didn't do anything last week because I was sick. How fast one can lose an edge, and I still feel jittery!

Lord only knows. She's a very heavy lady, so maybe it was mostly water weight? She's a nice gal and I like her, but dang! Even when I was at my heaviest, I never lost 25 in a month!
