My old "Cadillac" is getting up there, had her for over 10 years. She's getting slow and she's just old. I've been researching some laptops and came across a few at Circuit City.

I just have one small question for anyone that's good with the inner "workings" of a computer. What's the difference between AMD Turion, Intel Core, and Intel Pentium Dual Core? I know its the processor, but is there a difference in speed or something?

Two go nice with my budget, and one pushes my budget a tad, but its still do-able.

I've narrowed it down to 3

This one fits my budget the best

Next:

This is my second choice

And lastly:

I currently have an HP, it's given me many good years without any problems. It's more pricey, but it's do-able. My very first computer I had one my own was a Compaq. I didn't have it very long because it got fried in a thunderstorm. But the Compaq's are better priced.

I'm just a tad bit confused about the "processor" that each one comes with. I always thought Intel was the best. I've enver heard of the Turion.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions. :)

that is the one that i got last month (altho mine doesn't have the media card reader)...it's about $50 cheaper at best buy (got mine in the store). it is a really good computer...fast startup, takes a little time to get used to vista, but have had no problems so far.

can't help you about the what the different processors mean.

the turion and dual core are competitors in the 64 bit processor market...the intel core is an advanced version of the M processor (32 bit), which is more for "on the go" type of use...

i am personally an AMD fan, but it's all i've ever had so i am not sure if there is a true difference...

compaq used to be a sort of cheapy model computer...now it's sort of a ford model to the mercury model HP in the HP product line...compaq has, in my opinion, made great strides

I have had an HP laptop going on 6 year now...it is slow...but it does the job...and I have beaten the hell out of it...

I would check HP (for both the HP and Compaq models) directly...just to compare...the good thing about HPshopping.com is that you can go there and create the computer you want based on what you want to do with it...

as for the question about the processor - you will be fine with either of the processor, however, i would stick with the pentium dual core or the amd turion - they are more robust processors

Dang Dominic, thanks :)

I asked my IT guy at work some questions and he said the exact same thing you did. :)

He pushed me towards Dell because I can order it through work, and get it at a discount, but i'd have to pay for it upfront. I don't know if I could swing it.

I'll keep looking around though, thanks for the info.

if you have a choice between dell and HP...go with the HP, in my opinion...Dell is still pricey and they're not necessarily the quality computer they used to be...good luck

I saw a few more HP's on-line that I liked. Its the same model, just an inch or so difference in the screen size. I'll have to see them in person.

I'll take a shop, skip and jump in the next couple of weekends.

Heck yeah I did :)

I was really jone'sin for the Yellow, but my mom said it looked like "happy face" cartoon yellow. I am happy like sunshine, everyone at work calls me sunshine, but the green screams "fresh and calm" Plus it was more subdued and no so much in your face as the yellow.

Primary ship date is 9/22

another question about this is for wireless is it alot better to have wirless n vs wirless g... i notice with alot of chaper ones they only have wirless g and it doesnt seem like you get the n till you pay a bit more...

the wireless g is older technology certified under that 802.11 standard...n is newer technology with increased throughput...54 mbit/s vs. 600 mbit/s - the n standard, to my knowledge, is not finalized and any product claiming to be "n" is based on the draft n standard...either way...i really don't know what it all means...i just have IT Security three doors down from me so i hear this crap all day...
