I just got back from seeing this. Batman is NOT my fave superhero. In fact, I have never been a big fan of Batman. However, I have always loved his villains...the Joker in particular is one of my favorite villains of all time. And, yes, I have read the comics and graphic novels. That said, this is THE movie to see this year. I don't care if you like comics or Batman or not. This movie is great. Ledger's Joker is spot on. He IS the Joker. He nailed it....totally. He got the darkness...the insanity...yet humanity...that the Joker is. The Joker is that crazy/violent/insane person that is hidden inside all of us. The Joker is the nut we would all be if someone knew what button to push and exactly how and how long to push it. My only beef with the movie is that Ledger isn't in it enough. I find myself hoping that a lot of edits ended up on the floor and will be included in the DVD. It completely sucks that he isn't around to do it again because...really...no one will ever nail it like he did.

Heath was absolutely phenomenal. The interrogation scene was great with just his face glowing in the darkened room.

I love Christian Bale but got kinda annoyed with the super deep, raspy Batman voice, I couldn't hear what he was saying near the end. But still an amazing movie and it actually felt like 2 movies in one :P

thank you....the batman voice annoyed me from the beginning....I figured it was just me

I think bale did a great bruce wayne...his batman is the best so far..but I think it is still missing something...some sort of darkness or something just isn't quite there

I left the theater wanting to turn around and go back in and see it again. I can't remember the last time that happened.

my daughter just got back from seeing it, she said it was perfection and is pissed that there can't be a sequel with Heath.

I thought it was worth all the hype. I loved it. Very dark and Heath L did a great job at the joker. The best I have ever seen...

And Im not saying that because hes dead. He rocked the character the whole way. Insane indeed.

Two Face was crazy. the special effects on his face were great. His character came and went too fast. He had a larger roll in comics and it seemed he was under utilized.

anyway I give it a thumbs up!

good times!

I've been debating whether or not it is worth the hassle and the money to go see it on IMAX. Of course, they are sold out for the next week or two, but I figure I should be able to get a ticket after that if I want to...lol.

I do know that I want to see it in a theater again...be it IMAX or just a regular one. I'm itching to see it again.

saw the movie lastnight...i think i might be the most insane person legally living in the US right now...The Joker was not in the movie enough...Alfred's analogy was spot on...i don't like Maggie G(however you spell her name)...this was an action movie...batman begins was better for me...

it's definitely worth it... the scenes that were shot with the true IMAX camera were mind blowing!!! I agree about Maggie G... could've absolutely cast that part better... didn't really care for Katie Holmes in the first one either...

i thought they were developing the two-face character for the next movie, but no... i'm ok with maggie g. katie holmes is worse. i actually don't even remember seeing her in batman begins. anyway. the movie was excellent but people are generally over-hyping it.

Buannan
07-22-2008, 10:00 AM
I don't feel it was overhyped simply because of Heath Ledger's Joker. Without him, the movie would be ok but not great. I think Ledger MADE the movie as awesome as it is. And they consider him a supporting actor? I think he is the lead actor in this one.

i agree he did a great job and that his character is well tailored, but I read a couple reviews saying that it's oscar-worthy... that is over-hyping it in my opinion.

agreed - i don't feel the performance is oscar-worthy...the movie itself is not oscar worthy...it's a very cool action movie...i play the joker everyday...there is a person on formaldehyde in the basement of the hospital for each day i have worked here...they are all wired to a giant exploding banana cream pie.

after everything i have heard and read...and what Heath Ledger said about the character...i was let down...however, i am eagerly awaiting the director's cut which might shed more darkness onto the movie...maybe i am more depraved than anyone actually realizes...

You didn't think Heath Ledger's performance was Oscar worthy? I thought it was, therefore, I don't feel it was over-hyped.

He WAS the Joker. He fit the character perfectly...but, like I've said, I have read the comics and the graphic novels. Also, I have not seen Heath Ledger in ANY other movie that I know of so maybe he is always like this...I don't know. Like Nicholson's version of the Joker...it was good, but it was also obviously Jack being Jack like most, if not all, of his characters.

You're demented dom it's okay. ;)

Heath did an outside himself version of this character. Very talented kid.

It wasnt him being him. Like jack N.

was a good performance hands down. I loved the end with the director spinning the camera upside down while he hung upside down. was good.

Bahhhhhh. Not about the movie, haven't seen it.
About the co-worker I'm currently giving a ride home, who decided I needed to hear a rant about how much he didn't like it during today's trip. Contain spoilers, so scroll past the post if some of you out there have yet to see it and want to.

I grew up reading the DC Marvel Comics ... his hair is supposed to be green, not yellow ... he has a cut across his face instead of the plastic surgery ... Batman can't jump off a building without a cord! He's killed at the end, when he's supposed to go back into the insane asylum ... Joel Schumacher killed the franchise ... the movie was too long ... maybe I'm just old now (he's only 31) ... and other such crap. I suppose he wanted the movie to keep canon with the comic books. The film was piss in his cornflakes, I guess. I nearly cracked up when he was going off about Batman's new base jumping abilities. Worse than a Trekkie going off about Q getting soft in Voyager.

he's also a proponent of domestic violence...

not neccessarily... it may be nothing more than verbal assault, which as i understand it (correct me if i am wrong) is technically a crime in the UK. by all accounts that i've read he didn't actually touch anyone.

EDIT: just found this: "Bale was brought in voluntarily for questioning at a London police station yesterday on allegations of a “Class 4″ verbal assault. He was released without charge..."

i still haven't seen the movie. want to so sooo bad. friday...

assault, depending on how it is defined is causing an actual fear within someone that something bad will likely result...it is a civil offense...people usually confuse it with the criminal offense. battery is actual contact and can be tried both in the civil and criminal arena. battery is defined in the civil arena as an unwanted touching (defined by the reasonably prudent person standard).

domestic violence cuts a rather large path which would encompass both assault and battery. however, i could have chosen my words more carefully and characterized him as being a proponent of domestic disturbance.

but, what do i know...i was arrested and sodomized for excessive swearing in public...

isn't that what actors are expected/supposed to do? steve carrell is a fun actor...but he plays that same character in everything i've seen him in...that's not acting - that's memorizing.

again, from what i read about the character and how it apparently troubled ledger to play the part, i was expecting something more...something beyond villains we have seen in the past. i didn't see that. it's not a big deal...just my opinion.

the flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz are my favourite movie villains.

yeah, i just think that domestic **"violence"**, as you had originally put it, would need/infer physical contact - ie assault, as you said. it doesn't seem fair to say someone advocates domestic violence if all they were doing was exchanging / returning angry words without physical contact actually being involved.

i still haven't seen the movie.

It's not the point of this movie thread (though neither was your original comment), but I think it's pretty irresponsible to accuse people of things that you have no idea about. The additional reports this morning give an account of Bale's estranged sister showing up at his hotel room trying to borrow $200,000 from him. Bale said no, his mother berated him about his marriage, and Bale responded. You shouldn't accuse people of things -- or, worse, label someone as a "proponent of domestic violence" -- before you have any idea what the situation actually is.

All I said was that I felt it was irresponsible of you to label him a "proponent of domestic violence" when you had no real reason to do so. I don't think that necessarily deserved the kind of reply you gave it, but I am used to receiving such treatment from you.

"All I said was...blah blah blah bullshit"

well, let's see...the first report was that he was arrested for assault after an incident in a hotel...it's really irresponsible to characterize something for what it is believed to be at a given time. as i stated earlier, assault varies greatly depending on who is determining what happened...it can be physical in nature or threatening in nature with the absence of a physical element.

again, it was a fucking joke - which i thought was pretty apparent...but two people here didn't see that.

i react the way i do because of your pompous self righteousness - stop pretending you know people.

64% polled who did see it plan to see it again.
i wonder if all this "hype" and record setting sales would've happened if HL was alive.
please don't fight, boys....please.
you cannot possibly believe anything the press prints about the latest star du jour. none of us were in that hotel room with CB and his family. no one can say what happened and everything is most likely blown way out of proportion for the sake of attention.
