miss me? i missed *yous*! hope everyone had a great weekend, mine was truly so amazing I cannot tell you. Got to the rocks about 11 on Friday night, it was very cold, about 22 degrees, woke up with ice all over the tent! The geese in the canyon upheld their commitment to awake everyone no later than six in the morning, flying through the canyon, honking at each other at the top of their lungs, the noise echoes against the rocks so many times it sounds as if they're an entire flock instead of four or five geese! camped on the edges of the cliff overlooking asterisk pass....simply amazing, strangely enough, that camping spot almost seems to save itself for us, we've camped there so many times....the five of us enjoyed an awesome breakfast on Saturday, I took my banana and coffee...climbed out onto the ledge, and watched the sun climb above the rocks, slowly warming me...first the pullover comes off...then the gloves...finally the hat, my back being warmed by the spring desert sun....watched the marmots and chipmunks scurrying around the rocks below me...meditated a bit, opened my eyes at the sound of a large set of wings sweeping past me....golden eagles, turkey vultures and condors are nesting in the rocks right now....playing on the wind and swinging by to check on me, my eyes focused high in the sky on these awesome birds. Hiked down into the canyon, left my companions to scramble on the rocks, finally warmed by the sun....I hiked the entire length of the canyon with daisy, about 9 miles....just me and my dog cruising along the riverbank, geese with gosslings the color of new grass hidden along the banks...gently they nudge them into the water to swim a bit....feeling so very small in the shadow of massive pillars of rock.....when I returned from my walk, picked a nice rock leaning over the water, daisy took a nap and i spent about 45 mins doing some great yoga and breath work....amazing stuff, I tell you what. Returned home last evening....completely refreshed, my face pink from the sun....slept like a dream....so much more I cannot tell you. How about you all? Talk to me! /images/smile.gif

mine was very relaxing...spent saturday with my mother visiting my aunt, uncle and cousin, and sunday was on the couch watching the mariners! GO M's!!! /images/smile.gif

highway, missed you 'round here! one last picture, this one's called monkey face, and is actually a relatively easy climb (you can hike up around to the top if you're not lizardly inclined), only a 5.9 most of the way....

I knew that area looked familiar.... central Oregon is beautiful!! I haven't been down there since i was a kid when we would go camping with my grandparents every summer... gorgeous pictures, Jam's!

well i'm not quite ready to hit the trail up here cause a) i got get all this shtuff done so that i can walk outta here with my bachelor's degree in a few weeks and b) it's called snowshoing around here right now, and altho that's fun too, i want dry ground, and i want wildflowers, and i want tip tops of peaks that are now 19 miles up forest service roads, etc. but i'll be doin what i can. sure wish i could send you all pictures this summer. maybe i will have to do some skeeming(spelling? again i am perplexed). so where exactly are those pics?

well first of all, woo hooooo on the gradchiatin' soon, way to go sister! the mountains here are covered in snow still, but that's in central oregon, it's Smith Rocks State Park, 15 miles outside of Bend, OR. It's actually a rock climbing mecca, world famous, with some of the hardest recorded climbing routes...but a cool cool place even if you don't climb (cause you're too wimpy like me!) where you off to this summer?

is that anywhere near crater lake? one time i went there. it was way cool and i was all excited cause there were lizards there. haha don't ya hate being a wuss? man when i was little i really wanted to learn to climb and never did and now i'm frightened by it. but who knows maybe someday :) i'm going down to yellowstone to work on an antelope study which is beautiful in itself, but i plan on coming home to do some hiking in the spanish peaks outside of bozeman, mt as well as spending some time in the beartooths which are the most amazing mountains, and hopefully i will get down to the tetons, but that's a long trip. woohoo! summer is coming! oh hopefully too, i will be able to go up to glacier at the end of the summer with my best friend :)
