Very good news, hope Weiland can stay clean....
The recently reunited Stone Temple Pilots can add a full-fledged summer amphitheater tour to its previously announced U.S. festival dates, Billboard.com has learned.
Details are still coming together, but a source close to the alt-rock band says STP will play more than 50 shed dates this summer and into fall, beginning with the Rock on the Range festival on May 17-18 at Columbus, Ohio's Columbus Crew Stadium.
Among the handful of other STP dates already announced are May 23 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as part of the Indy 500 and the 2008 Edgefest on July 12 in Toronto.
Further details about STP's upcoming tour will be announced during an April 7 press conference at the Harry Houdini Estate in Los Angeles. Sources say that Los Angeles-based Live Nation will produce many dates on the upcoming trek. It is still unclear whether or not the band will record new material.
Rock on the Range will be Stone Temple Pilots' first show since 2002. Scott Weiland is about to conclude a European tour with his post-STP band Velvet Revolver, but he and drummer Matt Sorum have taken their feud public, casting the outfit's future into doubt.

Velvet Revolver To Continue Without Scott Weiland
Scott Weiland's recent mouth-off with fellow Velvet Revolver member Matt Sorum has proved fruitless. Weiland's announcement that Velvet Revolver is over has ended with his departure from the band and the promise of the band to continue without him.
In an announcement today, Velvet Revolver founding members Slash, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and Dave Kushner announced today that they are parting ways with singer Scott Weiland.
"This band is all about its fans and its music and Scott Weiland isn't 100% committed to either," said Slash in the statement. "Among other things, his increasingly erratic on-stage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on."
Weiland is back with his old band Stone Temple Pilots who will tour the North America in May.
As for Velvet Revolver, it is unknown who will be recruited as lead singer at this stage.

I'd take a gander on seeing STP if there was a Vancouver show, if it happened to be on a weekend. Not going to risk a no-show or being 1.5 hours late when I have to wake up early the next day.

Weiland's response read:
"Well, first of all, the state of my family affairs is really none of his [Sorum's] business, since he is too immature to have a real relationship, let alone children. So don't attempt to stand in a man's shoes when you haven't walked his path.
"Secondly, 'keeping rock 'n' roll alive?' I've made many attempts to remain cordial with the members of Velvet Revolver, but mainly, the likes of you. Funny though – this is your first band, as opposed to being a hired gun.
"I've been making records (I'm now on my ninth) which have sold over 35 million copies worldwide and have maintained a level of professionalism regardless of how many drugs I've ingested into my system.
"I have only cancelled one tour during the entire course of my 16-year run. Now, shall I open that can of worms, Matthew? Release the Kraken? Serve... volley! You cancelled the Aussie tour in the fall because you went to rehab, but I won't say why.
"As for our fans – I will sweat, bruise, and bleed for you. And will continue to do so until the end of this tour. However, you deserve to hear Velvet Revolver playing, not certain individuals singing along to get a muddied up sound.
"God forbid – could one imagine if I grabbed a guitar and started soloing along with Slash? That would never happen because I know my place. It's a shame, we were a gang. But ego and jealousy can get the better of anyone. I wish the best and plan to annihilate the stage in the last few shows."
