i was at the one last night. it was like a wild goose chase to figure out where it was....cryptic emails/text messages/pm's led us to the realization that there was a show monday and that there was one last night- in west seattle-somewhere....
we found the spot. hung around a bit. the guy at the door said there was no getting in, but we didnt believe him. we listened from outside for a few songs. the easy street guys brought out coffee and tea since it was cold. then about 4 songs in, we were invited to stand quietly at the back of the room.
TINY venue...i tried to count heads. about 100 i would say. just ed and a bunch of instruments- guitars, ukes, banjo, harmonica. lots of chatting between songs. sounded great.
soooo glad we got in.

someone was trying to get the word out on synergy about the monday night show...but they mods kept deleting it. a friend happened to catch a post before it got erased and called me. about the same time, someone saw a vague post on red mosquito and sent me a message on myspace that it was looking like there would be another show tuesday. but no one knew where.
so, i was at work searching the net for places in west seattle that could have hosted it; while a friend who was off work headed to easy street for info (only to find out that they sold tickets for monday, but didnt have any more for tuesday). someone remembered seeing a little place on 35th and we figured out the name- kenyon hall. checked their website and a couple of weeks ago, the lady that sang the song that matt played on to contribute to the obama campaign played a concert there. made since that maybe that is how ed heard about the place....so detectives headed over...there was an equipment van that just looked out of place for some reason...no idea why....just had a feeling.
a bit later, i got a pm on synergy from some random guy asking if i knew where 35th and thistle was because there was rumour of a show....well...that is EXACTLY where kenyon hall is....our feeling was dead on.
4 of us headed over there at 6 and just waited. a couple of people that we recognized as easy street employees showed up...that's it...it's on! so, we hung out and ended up inside. they people at the door kept saying there was no way we were getting in, and for awhile i was almost wishing i didnt even know about it--would have SUCKED to know it was happening and not be able to get in....but it would have been much worse if we took his word for it and went home...only to find out that they eventually let people in.
...not a bad way to spend a tuesday night.

another of the 'outside' people posted this setlist. i wasnt exactly sure how many songs were played before we got in. but now i know. looks like i got about half the show(but, we could hear ok from outside- especially during dead man):
The setlist from tonight:
walkin' the cow
i am mine
dead man
society
no ceiling
i used to work in chicago
far behind
rise
millworker
(outsiders were let in at this point)
broken hearted
you're true
goodbye
driftin' (with harmonica)
hide your love away (with harmonica)
guaranteed
picture in a frame
i wont back down
no more
growin' up (dedicated to Matt-owner of easy street)
forever young
so, i've got to be honest...i knew exactly 3 of the songs that i heard. i have the into the wild soundtrack...but truth is, i havent listened to it. after seeing the show, i am now more likely to bust it out and see how it sounds.
the sound in the venue was great. the richness of ed's voice was really emphasized in this small room. lots of goosebumps.

Let me get this straight.
They served you tea & coffee and let you listen outside the venue.
Then they relented and let you in and you got to hear half the show.
AND IF THAT WASN'T ENOUGH YOU THEN GOT GOOSED??????
now I am really jealous!!!!!

the amazing thing was just how small the place was. a tiny room with 6 or 7 rows of folding chairs.
the music was great, but the best part was how chatty he was between songs. very intimate.

I think it was the Dylan cover?
although I do love the Alphaville version which is actually nothing
at all like the Dylan tune - just the same title.
that other song was just some crap he wrote on a piece of toilet paper while
he was taking a dump the last time he was in Chicago.
