Hi pals

Tom here.

Sooooo, I kinda want to get out of seattle for New Year's and go experience something else...two options are portland and vancouver...here in seattle, we have the space needle that "explodes," but I was wondering if there was anything of the like in either PDX or Vancouver? you know, a big public place to watch a countdown?

thanks in advance :-)

Vancouver is not called "No-Fun City" for nothing. The outdoor "First Night" celebrations were put on hiatus years ago. The closest thing you can get to it, as far as I'm aware, is the deal at the Stanley Park Pavilion or one of the handful of boat cruises.

Go to Portland. Bonus: No border hassle. Double bonus: See Jami.

I'm about to board my flight over so the rest of you fuckers better turn up!!

I can't be of any assistance in your Question Tom, but if you happen to be in the Adelaide, Australia area pop in for some tasty cocktails..

A friend of mine went to U of Adelaide and he said that there's a reason why Fosters is exported...next time Im in the area, Ill give ya a holler:-)

I had the oppotunity to see Wu-Tang tonight, but I was busy washing my hair.

I'm going to the Bruins-Rockets game. Should be a good one. Rockets aren't missing their top goal-scorer like we are, but at least our Captain isn't out (potentially for the rest of the regular season if not longer - feel bad for MacEwan, shitty deal for one's final year in junior and being undrafted at that.)

Then I'll just come home and do what I normally do. NYE has never really held any significance with me.

I'm heading to PDX to see the annual T-Bird/Winterhawk fight...erm..game. :)

I think afterward, we'll be heading to the Yamhill. Nothing fancy, but I really love that bar. Hopefully it won't be too crowded.

Now I just have to figure out how to watch the pond hockey game tomorrow. I think I'll ask for a very late check out time and watch it in the hotel.

Tom, we are sitting behind the penalty box. Any idea where you will be?

Well, my game sucked ... mostly - some great efforts by Cody Smuk (the guy who KO'ed Beach last season), Colby Kulhanek, & Brandon Campos weren't enough to hold back the bigger/faster/stronger Rockets. Jung was solid for the Rockets, robbing Santorelli and Campos a couple of times each. Holden, unfortunately, had an uncharacteristically bad game. At least Kevin Sundher (15-year-old call-up) got his first point - unless his assist was taken back, it was announced in the rink but isn't on WHL.com - and showed us he's going to kick some massive arse in the coming years. He's already got the speed, the skill just needs to be refined for this level, and the size will come along with it all. He's currently 170 lbs, 5'11".

Glad to see that your game turned out in your favour. Portland is not going make the playoffs again, but things seem to be turning a corner a bit.
Hope they can get to the post-season in '08-'09.

That was actually one of the worst PDX/Seattle games I've ever seen. Although I always love a game in the Coliseum. It's an old time hockey arena and I just LOVE the atmosphere. And, I have to admit, the Portland fans are so much louder than the Seattle fans. I know the building it part of it, but they are louder. They just know how to build up the excitement. I really hope the T-Birds start to do that when they move to Kent.

I missed most of the pond hockey game, but what I saw was great. I'm hoping I can catch the rest of it on you tube or something. I hate shootouts. May I just remind everyone again how much I fucking HATE shootouts. THAT IS NO WAY TO DECIDE THE WINNER OF A HOCKEY GAME MR. BETTMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thing is, had OT kept going, NBC would have likely pulled the plug on all the American fans, since the game was already running so late.

Stupid TeeVee.

yeah...which would have sucked..but, still...I hate the stupid shootout

to be honest, the American coverage wasn't as bad as normal, but the announcers were still driving me nuts...it totally sucks that even with the center ice package, I could not get either one of the Canadian coverages
