Yes, you read that right! I'm a charter member of the "Team Challenge", a new program for the CCFA. I will be participating in the San Jose Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon on October 14th. Before I do, I must raise $3,100 and would love your support!

http://www.active.com/donate<wbr>/SanJoseRNR/csmooth24 (http://www.active.com/donate/SanJoseRNR/csmooth24)

Physically, this is the biggest commitment I've ever made and I'm completely dedicated to not only running the full 13.1 miles, but doing it in a respectable time as well.

thanks!

I'm really stoked to be doing this. Yes, it is in San Jose, so when I hit the $3,100 mark airfare and hotel are taken care of.

To think 5 short years ago I was struggling to get out of bed and walk, let alone running 13.1 miles! :) YIPPEE is right!

As much as I would love to be Bronzed (or even Titanium'd), the move is cramping the finances a bit right now. So I gave what I could.

Even so, I get to call FIRSTIES! :ninja::dog:

It's a lot of hard work and training to run a marathon, even a halfie. Best of luck to you! Have a great run, Smoothie!

how IS the new home thing going Reena?

Slowly.

The people who lived here before me didn't really understand the concept of "maintenance". They were elderly, mind you, so I'll cut them some slack. Got the walls puttied where necessary and ready for priming/painting, and my new furniture (couch/ls/chair/ottoman) was delivered today.
The only other things in there right now are some kitchen and bath stuffs.

way to go Chris - that's a huge undertaking

I guess you've been training - lots a long run - you'll be ready to hit boston and new york after that

we'll get Neil's brother to sponsor you and then you can call him and say "who the heck are you?"

find all the corporate match people out there - we're big on that in Canada, hopefully you have a few friends that work for companies that offer it

soon as I get paid I'll get something to you

had my first "official" team training run on saturday and it went quite well! while i'm not a full blown runner, i'm currently the strongest runner on the team. the running coach had to give me extra 'mileage' since I was ahead of the pace for the entire run. :)

thanks again you guys! the support is appreciated! :)

Holy God.

I watch those extremely obese people shows and all I can do is shake my head.

I'm heavy myself, but good lord.... :(

Anyways, glad to see things are going well my friend! I started jogging last week. I can't make it very far without, but its a start. I think I just have to breathe right and I'll be fine. In through the nose, out through the mouth....

yes, keep it up Cara! I would assert that most of the challenge of running/jogging is mental and not necessarily physical. there are certain thresholds that you can and will pass, so keep at it. Also be careful not to injure your knees or ankles. Make sure you stretch properly and ice after. Whether someone jogs for 1.5 miles or runs for 26, taking care of your body is #1.

if most of the challenge is mental then how is taking care of your body priority #1? wouldn't you want to prepare your psyche for the running first and then worry about your physical ability to run next?

cara, the fact that you are out there running is great...as you get into better shape and get into a rhythm with your breathing you will find it more relaxing and something that you look forward to doing because of the reaction your body has both physically (the change) and physiologically (the "rush"). keep it up...

do you have any yummy recipes that you've dreamed up or stumbled upon since you've started this whole process?

GreenDisease
09-26-2007, 06:31 PM
chicken and turkey sausage jambalaya with Dreamfields carb cutting penne. :)

I sort of re-tooled an Emeril recipe I saw on a show that had chicken, shrimp, and andouille sausage. Had loads of cream and all that very yummy stuff. I took out the shrimp because its just nasty to me, haha. I used turkey sausage instead of the pork, and took out the cream and added a bit of 1% milk.

I've been pretty basic with eating really. Steamed veggies, lots of chicken, lots of fruits. I tried eating wheat pasta, but I just can not get into it, its like cardboard. I opted for the Dreamfields and I am pretty happy with it, its alot nicer going down the esophagus, haha. :)

I would have gone for a jog today but its close to 90 here, weird for Fall, so I didn't want to push it. I feel more comfortable running in cooler weather. I'd run on the treadmill at the gym, but I need the natural surroundings. One thing I did notice though, is that the left side of both of my shins were sore. Maybe I'm running to hard for my weight and should run slower, or I didn't warm up enough. But the icing afterwords is a good tip, I didn't know to do that!

Keep up the good work Chris, I'm proud of you!

sometimes, running outside on the road is hard on your shins and you have to be careful about stress fractures...as you begin losing more weight, it will be easier for you to run in any situation. your body will also have to adjust to a more active lifestyle. if there is a track nearby, you might try that as an option that will be a lot easier on your legs and knees.

steamed vegetables and chicken is perfection anyway...

I tried running on the boardwalk last night and it seemed a bit better on my shins. Maybe the forgiveness of the boards took away some of the shock to my legs. I was only jogging around the neighborhood before, that might have been too rough on me.

GreenDisease

Joins us Beta, you can do it!

I was super lazy from mid-week to end. I got a "surprise visit" and it ruined all my hard work for the week. I hit the exhaustion wall and I was dead tired.

I gained two pounds of water this week. I'm working on cookies right now and I've got no energy. :(
