I've just looked at my "Joined Date" for the good old Purple Palace, and I've realised that I've been a member here for 6 years...six fucking years!!!!
In that six years, I have moved to Japan, then back to Melbourne, then to Singapore, then to London, I've worked for 5 different companies and lived in 6 different apartments. I've met and married a wonderful woman, engaged in what many would claim were deviant marital practices and have almost been convinced that having children would be a good idea I've bought 2 houses that I've never lived in and almost a third which I would have and we still don't have enough room for all of our crap. I've earned about 1.2mm frequent flyer miles, visited about 30 countries, and flown first class over a dozen times. I've gone from being 28 years old to being almost 34, having no grey hair to a barnet that resembles George Clooney's and I don;t really seem to have aquired any wrinkles. I've probably seen about 1,000 movies, written two but so far have had none produced.
It's been a long time full of momentous changes and I realise now that I have spent it all with you guys. Thank you very much.

i joined under groovN in 9 of 2000. i think im pretty much the same person, although i have changed jobs and i've met a good deal of you, which of course would change a person. been to the country of my ancestors (ireland), the cities of my best buddies (london, portland and well, not miami but close enough since she was there!), the city of my favorite band (seattle) and the city of my fantasy (paris). since i came here i saw pearljam, most of the time with one or more of you guys. lost my mom, my cousin and my doggie. i've created a new relationship with my brother and got a new doggie.
so much changes and so much stays the same.
its been a fun coupla years :)

haha
I remember Jake and Kevin more from synergy anyway
boula and his pictures and I always remember seeing moyboy's name - I didn't know that it was either of your last names
broken, rearview, wicca and hedo were my first little gang - they kept telling me about this place but I didn't join for a while - and then when I did I put pictures up of fat naked men in diapers
:)
I still keep in touch with one of the first people I ever met at synergy - almost day one - I don't think she's on the boards anymore but we went straight to e-mail - there were no user names at the beginning anyway
she's still around - somebody else here knows her - she's just always been a great person to write to
I NEVER imagined back then that I would ever actually meet and keep in touch with people - over 8 years - WOW
were any of you guys pre-synergy? - I think some of you guys were on AOL??

01-24-2007, 10:27 PM
well, seeing that you posted it twice it must be important :)
Yeah, I remember the good ol' Synergy days...1998 I do believe, is when I started on it.
Yeah, I used to do those dumb "pics of the day" ...and I have to say that I was ahead of the times...(not really, but give me some credit..for something :)) But they were fun as hell to do, and I actually had a pretty good following.
I don't have any of them anymore...I wonder if there is someone out there who saved them all?? (they were all saved on my msn group, but I believe that is long gone...http://groups.msn.com/thejamilyporch)
But man...that was a real long time ago. Hedonist seems to be doing well, judging from the last PM that I got from her. PJMOM was another one that I kept in contact with for a long time, but I think she kind of drifted away from a lot of stuff...hope she's doing great...
There are SO many more names out there...ahh, the memories

Jake I loved your pics of the day, I think actually you get credit for creating the songs of the day posts.
I think your idea came first, and a few of us old timers were talking on MSN, and one of us mentioned doing a song of the day, and your post was mentioned.
Or maybe I am remembering it wrong, and you started those after.
Too fucking long ago, haha.
Synergy started their offical board on June 30th of 99 I believe, before that it was the make a name for yourself type situation.
I never even knew about that board, even though I always was looking at synergy for PJ info I never saw anything about a board until July of 99, in the Synergy news thingy. After a few days of causally reading it I decided it was not too weird to join a message board of a band I really enjoyed and signed up.
Been on this strange place since Chris started it, well not really, the first few months I was too shy to sign up and join, but I did read it since the beginning and joined later.
Friendships found and then some lost, people come and go in your life at times, disappearing or reappearing. I know one thing though, it has been long strange trip so far.
Have met many of you in different cities and states to see PJ, have not met many more of you in other strange places, who knows what the future has in store for us all.
Not seen the band in almost 4 years now, but maybe I will catch them this time around if they tour again. If this occurs and I meet any of you for the first time, let me state, Hi my name really is Jason, I am not such an asshole in person, as I can be online, only sometimes. It's nice to meet you after seeing your name on a board for such a long time, I hope you have fun at the show, and you enjoy the music....
goodnight gracie

just a whole lot of abuse to a whole lot of people, on many different levels. i won't get into it other than to say that i saw it first hand more than a few times. besides that, we don't care for eachother too much anyhow. the last time i spoke with him i told him that the bleach in his hair was seeping into his brain and making him write the same song over and over. trust me, it was deserved!

I seem to vaguely remember the Song of the Day posts...but I think it actually WAS after my Pics of the day.
Seriously, if anyone could find someone with those, that would be totally rad. Maybe I'll actually post over on Synergy and see if someone has them...though my post will probably fall faster than...fast.

I know cosmo is on myspace - I don't know him (although I think he's quite brilliant) but my friend's have met him and say he's a great guy
I loved the song of the day - check with rearview - I think even the mods turned to her to get the original ones when the board crapped out (rearview? - something like that??)
I had a great time back then - I never hit it off with PJmom - I think it was that whole l'il timmy thing - same with rumour killer, I like the person, they're damn funny but c'mon - cut the mystique
and wicca's alter-ego - I can't remember what it was but she had a link to some amazing site - I can't remember and it's going to drive me nuts because it was really cool - and WHERE THE HELL IS SHE THESE DAYS
anyway
it's a whole new generation over there - I can't relate - and damn it they're DENSE - they don't get anything funny
the mods don't even get involved in anything any more - I remember they would jump right in before
and I think you're right Jason - first day of the board was Dec 23, 1998 (gee wonder why) and then early 99 they made you register
but what I REALLY miss is the Rockfords board - much smaller crowd - a bunch of us here, Terry, Mark, vitolachica(something like that), victorria, that other girl who's name I can't remember but I bought her CD memory box and will now go dig it out, sometimes Carrie, all the time Rick, chris (not friel),THE POP ROCK'N ROBOT, even caught Mike on-line a few times
my Rockford's pop rock'n robot is above all my MOST FAVOURITE T-SHIRT, it's way too
big so I've been going to have it professional glued onto the back of my jean jacket for something like 5 years, I will do it this week dammit - we met Regan and talked to him for about an hour, we even talked about some of the stuff he designed and I never mentioned the shirt - which I'm sure he had a lot to do with - because I am an idiot

Um, yeah you're right about a few things, after the board died the first time, kat and sea asked if anyone had the SOTD, and Nancy had saved them, not all the posts were saved, as I think she saved them from a certain date, but most of them were. I still have them here on floppy. I posted them when this new board was created in 2003, and posted the first couple of albums but there was no response so I quit.
Wicca was Santa Claus and the name you're thinking of is ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, shit I can't remember either, but yeah she posted quotes of the day that were really cool from some site. I will remember it at some point and let you know, or wait till broken sees this, I know she will remember I bet.
I still don't know who the heck was lit timmy or Rumor Killer, Rk is still around, seen them post on a # of occassions over the years.
I know I thought it was you or broken were timmy for a while, but you both denied it. Rk is some guy in Jersey who has some connection to the band I think, I don't think they had another name though.
Jake I guess I am right, you did create SOTD, you were doing your posts and on MSN someone mentioned doing the albums in order as SOTD like your pics. See how powerful you were as just a wee lad. This was in 2000, so you must have started the pics of the day in late 99 I am guessing.
Remember in dec for a couple of years we were allowed to posts gifs and stuff, that was fun.
I don't know where you can find those old posts, I bet someone must have them, maybe email kat or sea, maybe they can help, although very unlikely.
Yeah Sharon, you have all your info right, I still dont know why they never put on Synergy that they had a message board from dec of 98 till they created the new one on June 30th, but I remember when I first looked at the board, and I saw your posts and others talking about the other board, and I was like hey, why did I never know about it.
Oh and Jake if you make a post on there, just let me know and i will bump it up every day until you get some answers.
Okay now to wait for broken to answer what the name of wicca's other name was.

i liked when we had the porch parties. too funny. i was working graveyard shift in north carolina and was on there all night. lol.
i occasionally go over there...like to see if i am the ONLY one to still not have my newsletter!
Cosmo (alan) is super fun. i met him in person for the first time i think in 2003. his posse and my posse hung together for bridge this year. he is very sweet.
ah the rockfords board....my first friend in seattle was Rick. we talked a lot in pm's and then when i came out to start looking for places to live/work, he was very sweet to me. i love those friel boys to death. i remember how freaked out i was when mike answered my pms and chatted with me several times.

So glad to still have the sunporch off the main house!!
wow, names there I haven't seen in a while.
I would basically act like a goof most of the time at Synergy because of folks taking everything so seriously. Besides, we all ended up having a pisser and making some really good friends!
At one point a few people arrived who knew every little detail about the band (totally creeped me out), would have ridiculous arguments about subjective topics such as whether or not someone should like a song. It got pretty bizzare.
I pretty much stepped back quite a while ago from Synergy...
I go over to check to see if anything is new but it's so large a massive now I skim and leave.
Loved your pics of the day Highway, they were such a pisser. I remember you doing one with the rubber bands. We were all goofing on why Ed wore them and I was saying it was to shoot Stone in the ass. Then it became a whole thing about how everyone should shoot him in the ass and you came up with that funny assed picture of Ed.
I wish I had them saved, they always made me laugh!
You're right Share, I tried a little of the old goofy humor and people just don't get that you're kidding around.
I went on a rant about the PJ Tube socks and how wonderfully luxurious they were, how everyone should have them, and people were like ????
They must have thought I was a tube-sock-loving-fanatic! HA! It was pretty funny....they didn't get that I was kidding at all! :silly: :cyclops: :silly:
They have all of the old songs of the day archived on synergy in the back pages...at least they used to. RrVw had them all saved and would get them back up for Kat every time a board crashed or when they would start a new board.
The Rockfords board was a cool little board.
If it wasn't for Synergy, none of us would have ever become acquainted with Chris+Smirks, we would have never known about this wonderful little haven. I can't get here all the time, but it's so nice to know it's here for us!

let's not forgot that Broken put the post up about Nine Shining Stars Looking Down on Us
and let's not forget that the single that year had same quote in the artwork
that was one of the most beautiful posts ever and it was such a tough time at the board
I remember panicking about Hund and e-mailing purple rain's father in England
funny how we like-minded people hit the board at the same/right time - because I have to tell you if I just started out now I would have passed right on by
I never got a pm from Mike - but I got lots of nasty pm's from people when I posted to Mike that the best way to quit smoking would be to get off the chain smoking inducing computer - haha

I wasn't Timmy, can't tell you how many pms I would get asking me that. and I have no idea who the Rumor Killer was.
On the very first board which was basically like a sheet of paper...heheh..
I used to post as Fat Bastard once in a while complete with the Scottish written accent and cursing once in a while in the Gaelic!
It was fun, the real die-hard fans would get so pissed off.
I didn't save that post when it happened Share, but then Blue Rain had saved it to disc and posted it on New Year's day following that terrible summer. She said the words helped her heal. She had sent me a note to let me know it was there and how much it helped her. Needless to say it was very emotional for me to read her words so I printed the original thread she had posted.
When the single arrived, I folded her post with the thread from that summer and slipped it in the sleeve. It's still in there. I've always viewed it as a wonderful coincidence although I had received many notes from people who felt otherwise.
ah well....
again, to me it's so nice to know that there is this quiet little haven to come to where we have all been acquainted for a long time, or lucky enough to have met.
