Hi. I need yr help. I'm trying to write a resume and I'm supposed to like "detail my duties" in the positions i've held. I currently work at a day care and I can't for the life of me figure out the proper resume-speak with which to sum up what I do. I basically do everything... In the time I've worked there I've been in every room (teeny infants through like 11 year olds) and I mean... like with the littler ones of course I have to change 'em, feed 'em, clothe 'em, put them to bed, soothe them, play with them... And then the older ones well I don't change them or anything but I do have to like put lunch out for them or whatever, make sure they nap, play with them, watch them, care for them, solve problems, etc. I mean just whatever... I just take care of kids you know?
Anyone know how to say this on a resume? You know you have to have all those fuckign action verbs too and stuff? I just can't figure out how to say it. You see how rambling my posts are, it's pulling teeth to try and make these concise little statements about shit. BLEH.
HELPHELPHELPHELPHELPHELP.
won't you please please help me?
I'll sing your praises.

Well I'm sort of just writing a rough draft of a general resume, but no, I dont' think i'm going to work in day care again right now... Actually the one job I'm trying to get this resume written for is just some stupid temp job at a university... I mean I won't be a student anymore. I assume the temp jobs there are in office work and whatever. So I just need to just try and make myself sound all around keen, ya know? Okay yeah, let's just say I'm writing a resume for a non-day care job, and i just need it to outline my merits as a person or smething. I don't know. bleh fucking stress.

hmm...let's see if I can help ya Nic, cus I work at a daycare too.
Though I don't work with little kids, what you could say is that you: Provide neccessary(spelling?hehehe) care for infants. I think that would be enough, for the little kids.
Then you could say that you : ARe a group leader, and help the children in daily excercises such as group work, motor skills, and school activities.
You could also say that you provide a role model for the children to look up to
somewhere along those lines, I have to do one of these myself
good luck to ya/images/smile.gif

This is how I would list it, but this is coming from someone who redid her resume like 50 million times.
Organizational Skills
-Maintain nourishment of # of children three times daily
-Awareness of location of children at any given point of time for safety
Communication Skills
-Adapatation to various needs of different age groups of children
-Assist in problem solving while seeing all aspects of a given situation
-Ability to generate the correct response to various feelings, emotions and types of personalities
Now is this going overboard or is it what you're looking for???

I'd rather you go overboard than underboard... Ha underboard. Anyway, it is more helpful the more material I have to choose from. I thank everyone for the help thus far... JJP, I don't think this is going overboard, anyway... I mean I'm condensing it a litlte bit but it's real helpful. WHY do resumes exist? That's a rhetorical question. I just don't like having to try and make myself seem worthy of employment using one sheet of paper that doesnt' even represent the REAL me.
Can you see the real me? HR person, HR PERSON?

I soooo agree with you on this point. It's like I am not a piece of paper. If you gave me a shot at the job I would prove to you that I am compotant enough to do the job. Don't even get me going though!!!!!!!
I'm glad you could use it and good luck to you /images/smile.gif

So initial action verb/adjective ideas - not complete thoughts though:
"Total responsibility for..."
"Coordinate all aspects of..."
"Solely responsible for..."
(using numbers of kids, dollar amounts, quantities...are all good ideas)
"Actively encourage/engage...."
"Maintain schedule/regiment....."
"Certified in....." (CPR? First Aid?)
"Attend workshops/training/certification seminars for....."
"Provide close attention/playful interaction..."
?
