(This may be a doozy - I am a little long-winded at times /images/wink.gif)
Hello all, I haven't been here in 2 days or so (gasp) and no, it wasn't a form of silent protest or anything - I have my own shit to do, like, for example, standing in an organic chemistry lab for 4 hours watching my oh-so-scientific dishwashing gloves dissolve under the strong and obscenely hazardous acids they make us work with. Then, I had to listen to the marvels of urination in a lecture. Last week was diarrhea and vomitting - gotta love human physiology. Anywho, so I come on here and am faced with 2 general posts - the I'm leaving this place and the poopy is disgusting and offensive posts. Rather than going and bumping up several posts on the matter, I'm tackling it in one foul sweep. And forgive me if I'm too late to discuss this, but here goes:
ISSUE #1.People disillusioned with the Jammer community in this and other boards and feel they must leave as a result
Alright, I'm thinking about Ishy here, and how he said that he's sick and tired of getting stepped on while the assholes(who he encounters in cyberland as well) rule the world and he hoped that the PJ community would be different. Now, allow me to offer an astute observation here - assholes are everywhere! Just because we're all PJ fans doesn't mean we're upstanding citizens who sit for hours on end discussing societal faults and our plans to make the world a better place by nightfall. Granted, this may be the case SOMETIMES, but we can't be super intelligent ALL the time. Heck, let's look at the infamous PJ fan who spurned the quarter rant. That, my friends, was an asshole - and a PJ fan, nonetheless. So, Ishy leaving because he wants to avoid these assholes is a futile attempt. If he can't learn to accept that we are not an ideal bunch, that some of us are losers, and leaves this place to get away from them, he will surely encounter an asshole in real life who's 10 times worse than any he can find on here. And as for Rhuarc, who's sick of being ignored - speak up. Don't sit there fuming because ppl won't talk to you - take the initiative and talk to them. And, if any of you really want to leave, then go - it's just a BBS. But just remember, whether on here or in real life, don't let the bastards grind you down!
#2. Poopy's posts being offensive/disgusting, etc...
Now, I for one feel that Poopy is free to post to his heart's content - if Smirks has no problem, then neither should we. To sit and tell someone that they can't post something is ridiculous, because where is the line drawn then? Maybe you feel that Poopy's posts are objectionable and shouldn't be on here, but then anyone else can say that such and such a user's posts are useless and those shouldn't be up here either. I for one, am not going to be hypocritical here. I happen to think that Dumb&Dumber is a hilarious movie and have been known to watch other trash on tv. Some of you would think I have issues with my tv habits. But, they are my escape and harmless fun in an otherwise bleak world of quantum mechanics and the like, as are poopy's posts to those who reply to them. So, the simplest solution is the don't read and reply policy. And also, there is more to poopy than meets the eye - take a look at his Pearl Jam post. If that's not good writing, then I don't know what is.

Just had to get some things off my chest
Thanks for listening

Wow, that was *very* well-said. You are absolutely right about there
being people that you will disagree with no matter where you go. Assholes are everywhere you go. Case in point...I work at a Catholic church, and every year I have to direct traffic in the parking lot at Christmas. Now, you'd think that overall people would be considerate and treat each other with respect (it being Christmas and all). Well, I was very wrong. During those few times that I have done that, I have never been treated so poorly or seen people behave in such an inconsiderate mannar in all my life. So yes, there will be people who will find disagreeable *no matter* where you go. Of course I am sure that you'd encounter more "assholes" at...let's say the Slayer bbs or something like that (one day out of pure boredom I checked out other Sony bbs sites.....a very angry bunch I found over there).
In regards to issue number 2...I think its cool that we are free to speak our minds and post about whatever we want to here. Kind of like the idea of free speech. Free speech will always come at a cost...you're bound to hear things that you will not like sooner or later. But your right to express yourself is just the same as the next persons, and to that end you can't censor anybody else. People have a right to not like Poopypants' posts...even post that they don't. But as you said, it is easy for people to not click on them as well. Personally, I am not offended per se by his posts, and believe that he doesn't mean any harm by them. Poopy's posts may cross a line or two at times, but are basically lighthearted and very well spoken as well. I like reading everyone's posts here...so I hope no one leaves because of another's posts. As you said, we are all individuals here, and the mix of ideas is something that I really enjoy about the whole internet experience. Sometimes you will encounter people who forget that there are real people behind usernames...those that will go off and say things to another that they wouldn't say to them face-to-face. But they are few and far-in-between fortunately.
Anyway, I just thought I'd expound on what you said...although not as well as you did. It was nice talking to you last night in the chat as well. :) I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend.
