Happy Independence day to everyone in the States.
This site, Peace Takes Courage, was shared with me by a friend a couple of weeks ago, who as myself, opposes the war in Iraq. The site is run by a 15 year old girl down in Alabama, her name is Ava Lowery, and as far as I'm concerned, this kid kicks some major ass. She gives a lot of us hope for the future....she's inspiring.
Hopefully this doesn't rub anyone the wrong way but I've been so upset about this war, even when it was just an idea that they were planting in everyones mind back in late '02. Today, Independence Day, has always been a day when I've felt proud of the country I live in. I still am, don't get me wrong, the actions of the last 3 years make me feel even more in love with this country, to the point where I need to stand up for it and shout NO MORE.
July 14th will be another opportunity as women all over the United States will be peacefully protesting this action, and any other action they feel needs to be addressed whether it be medicare for our elderly or expressing simply a general feeling of helplessness with this administration. This 'event' (or non-event, we'll see how it goes...), :nervous: has been organized by the writer Anne Lamott. At the very least, a few people in our town will see that, yes, the peaceniks are still around...maybe it'll inspire? Maybe we'll get to see some birds flipped at us, whichever way it goes, at least it'll feel a bit productive. We'll be wearing green if you see us, and eating fruit, and expressing our concerns about peace....and if you want to join in if you happen to see us anywhere in the country,....feel free....we'll be a welcoming bunch.
(The last time I marched for anything was in the late '70s..it was D.C. and a sit-in/march against the issue of paraquot being sprayed on the reefer supply somewhere? on the planet...I was in my teens, just happened to be there on our way to a summer vacation in N.C., and basically just hung out trying to find an oz. to bring with me that was hopefully not sprayed with paraquot!, good party, many bones, and a lot of good music...not really productive-HA!) :smoke: :oldman:
Happy 4th~
(Think I'll go throw some tea into a large body of water today.....)
