Has anyone been watching this so far? It's insane!!

The U.S. team sucked...I don't want to hear about our group pick, we just couldn't play!

I say, let some young boys come in and give it a shot...the older guys have tried and tried..to nothing

Did anyone just see the Brazil goal (By Ronaldo??) ONe of the prettiest I have seen so far!

that was a nice goal for sure - i am back at my house now - no TV - boooooo!

no qualms about the group pick - i am upset by the call in the box during today's game though...tied going into the second period changes that entire period...if you ask me...but, it's over...there need to be some changes...

Highway23
06-22-2006, 04:19 PM
well, refs did seem to have something against us this fine tournament, but if you leave it up to the calls...you're going to lose

HEY BUDDY!!!

06-22-2006, 04:21 PM
well, yes, that's true and i agree whole-heartedly - but, that call, nonetheless, changed the face of the game in the second period...

ghana had no use in attacking and giving us any chance of getting a goal on a counter...they laid back and played defense like they should have...because they could.

come on here and steal some music

i am really digging watching this stuff. as a fan, i simply have to appreciate the fevor that the fans of this sport generate - its like philly x100! i love it!!

its also such a fast paced game - i LOVE that the clock doesnt stop.

i sound like such a novice, i know.

anywho, ghana played the hell out of the us team. they were like a swarm of bees after that ball. the us was way too laid back. and that free kick they got SUCKED - christ, the ball was no where near the goal!

not sure who i will root for - gotta see who is still in play for this next round. although if i dont root for brasil, beta will probablly kick my ass :P

The US sure did shit the bed at this world cup.

I thought the team underachieved the whole tournament...Id actually like to see Ghana do really well the rest of the way. Im pulling for England to win it all, but I think that it could be Brazil that does it...

Bruce Arena should probably step down after this...he's done an unbelievable job for US soccer, but I think that its probably time for all sides to part mutually

I only say that because a game like this (brasil x argentina) has so much history and rivalry that not necessarily the best team wins, but the one with more thirst of victory and heart. I think argentina has more of that than us. who knows, maybe that japan 'scare' goal reminded the players what this is all about. we'll see.

And today starts my favorite phase. win or go home, YAY.

Germany x Sweden
Argentina x Mexico

....get your cash behind Australia. I have a sneaking suspicion that we will beat Italy on Monday and will wind up in thr quarter finals against Switzerland.

I am thinking that the Germans will face Argentina in the Quarters on the other side of the draw, and being the home natiion, will triumph in a high scoring game. England will beat Equador quite easily, and will face Holland on the Quarters after Holland dispatch of Portugal 1-0 in the other round of 16 game. The Cloggies will detroy the Engllish on the day, beating them 3-1 after Wayne Rooney re-injures his foot.

This will set up a Semi Final show down of Germany v Australia and Holland vs Brazill on the other side. Australia will triumph against the Germans in extra penalties after Mark Schwartzer is able to save 7 consecutive goals and John Aloisi of Australia finially sneaks one past thee German Keeper.

In a shock upset of the cup, the Dutch will hold Brazil goal less in their game and will sneak home a goal in added time at the end of the game thereby setting up an Australia v Holland final. As Australia's coach is Dutch and also the coach of PSV Eindhoven, he will know all the players tactics back to front. It will be a nasty spiteful game with both teams picking up 2 red cards, but Australia will evventually hoist the World Cup, heralding the beginning of a renewed era of Australian sporting dominance of the world.

We will regain the ashes, win the Rugby world cup back as well as retaining the cricket world cup. We will enter a team in the world series of baseball, winning an unprecedented 120 games in the season and shutting out all teams in the pennent races and the world series. At the same time, we will win the NBA and the NHL (after learning to skate), AND we will field a team of rugby players to play in the NFL, winning 17 games including the super bowl.

At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Australia will win every single Gold medal it completes for and then in Vancouver in 2010, we will do the same. Early in 2011, we will sail the entire continent from country to country bringing various barbeque goods to them all, and with them, world peace, AND a resolution to the problems of world hunger.

So...you see...the ONLY sane thing to do is support Australia in their game against Italy on Monday.

anyone else watch the horrific officiating for the POR VS. NED game yesterday?

I believe it was 18 cards!!!

It was insane...it looked like one of my high school games was being ref'ed

wow, it was brutal

and though Portugal won, they iwll now be without one of their best (who was given a red card for a weird call...)

love it though!

reallygroovN
06-26-2006, 10:14 AM
i noticed that - although i know nothing about the rules of soccer. i guess you get a yellow card, which is a personal penalty good for that game, when you have a minor foul and a red card, which carries over to another game, when you cause a major altercation or foul.....do you get a red card when you rack up a certain amount of yellow cards? i saw the refs giving them out - and the announcers said they are kinda worthless to give out at the end of the game.

Highway23
06-26-2006, 11:41 AM
2 yellows = 1 Red

1 Red - You don't get to play the next game

1 yellow in one game
1 yellow in next game = 1 Red

I watched the England v Portugal game at the Henley Regatta, on Saturday. I was standing with a large group of Australian friends in an open enclosure beside the Thames full of English football supporters.

It was a boiling hot day and I was in a suit (dres regs for the extremely posh regatta, don't you know, daaaaaarrrrrhhhhlink) and the game was one of the most boring I have ever seen. When England finally lost, it was like the sound had been turned off in the enclosure. 10,000 people just stopped talking. All of my friends and I decided that it was not a good place to be at that stage (particularly as we were all rather happy with the result if not the Portuguese performance in the game) and we legged it out of the enclosure back to our own.

As we picked our way through the crowd, we noticed fights breaking out between English supporters, grown men with England flags tied around their necks like capes falling to their knees and crying their eyes out in mute despair as they implored god to reverse time and change the result. It was an impessively surreal experience. England as a whole had been convinced that this was their year and they would indeed walk away with the trophy.

As we were walking back to the train station to go back to London we found out that France had also beaten Brazil. It was salt rubbed into the English wounds. They hate the French and to see them progress at the expense of the World Champions was almost too much for many of them to bear. More fights started to break out and police had to step in and calm the crowds down. We decided that the best option was to get a cab back to London as none of us wanted to be on the trains back.

You see....if Australia HAD progressed...none of this would be happening. As I remarked before, world peace would now be breaking out around the globe.

Michael is going for France,

what about everyone else? I'm looking forward to a fast paced game. I love watching Henri play for France, but after watching Ronaldo from Portugal during that penalty kick...the smirk and confidence on his face...makes me want to see him shine somemore.

I'd like to see Portugal I guess. Though I really just want to watch an exciting game.

or maybe i'm just too bitter about France beating Brasil.

I'm happy for Italy. Now they have 4 titles and catching up with Brazil, who has 5. It's all good, though. What a sad way to see Zidane go. Who knows, maybe if he was still in the game, he would have made the penalty kick instead of trezeguet and scored. Or he might have made the difference before the penalty kicks. I was so disappointed to see him do that, what a loser. Well, he was chosen best player of the Cup anyways, go figure.

Did you guys see the Italians cut Camoranesi's hair while celebrating? What a waste, all cup long I commented on how pretty that man's hair was, haha.
