I am posting this b/c I want to share this information with people. I am not trying to start a political debate or anything, but rather let you know what is happening in our world today. My folks are immigrants to the U.S. from Macedonia so this especially hits home with me. A woman who is like a mother to me had an exchange student some years back that was from Macedonia whom she still keeps in touch with. The following is an e-mail he sent to her about the situation over there. He asked that she forward it people to let them know what's really going on there. Even as I type this my cousin is fighting in this guerilla war and his family doesn't know where he is. I know it is extremely long, but just keep in mind that we live in a small world and that the situation in Macedonia effects us all. Peace out everyone.
Hi let me explain you this whole situation in Macedonia right now the way it really is. Macedonia is a country with population of 2 million people of wich 20-30% are Albanians, there are some Turks, Serbs, Gypsies, and majority of 67% are Macedonians. Nowadays, Albanian bandits, extremists, ultranationalis, criminals, terrorists, savages are attacking Macedonian army, and trying to take control of some of the Macedonian territory (the north-western part, where the majority of the Albanians live). They have given many different reasons for their actions, and when they realize that certain reason really doesn't make sense they turn it to (make up) another reason and so on. Now, they say that their fight is a product of a 10 years of repression by the Macedonians! Hahahaha, this is the funniest but yet the most tragic thing I have ever heard. Let me tell you about the 10 years of repression that Albanians have. They have kindergartens where everything is in Albanian, they have primary schools in where students study in Albanian, high schools in Albanian, and in the University they hold lectures in Albanian in certain fields of study where there are enough Albanian students that study that field of studies. Not only that. In disadvantage of the Macedonian students (when I write Macedonian, I refer to the nationality, not to the citizenship) the government brought a law that allows the Albanian students to be able to get to an university with only 60 points (or 60%) on the entering exam. Unlike them, because of the
big number of students wanting to enter certain college in the university, Macedonian students can't get in an university with less then 95%!!! But OK,
although the right to enter the University of the Macedonians is restricted, we said it is all a part of living together, part of making the percentage of
academically educated Albanians bigger, and that would be an asset for all of us. Second, the Albanians have total religious freedom. They celebrate all the religious holidays the way their religion says, they don't go to work those days and so on. Third: although always the Macedonian political parties have the majority in the Parliament, they always include an Albanian party in the government as a sign of the good will for mutual understanding for everyone's needs, as a sign of a good will for common life here on this little part on earth , and also with the reason that the Albanians would have a political representation in the government. Fourth: they now have their own TV channel financed by the government (not a private one!) that broadcasts programs in Albanian. Fifth: the passports, the ID's of the Albanians will be written in Albanian too, and everywhere in the towns where majority of the people that live there are Albanians, the Albanian alphabet is used on the store windows on the signs and so on! And off course, like all the others, they enjoy all the human rights. Not only that, the Macedonian as a major nationality has put so much effort and so much good will and so much patience to build good relationship and good common life with the Albanians. And they claim repression, they claim assimilation, they claim terror??? On contrary! Macedonians suffer assimilation by being 80% of the population in the past in the north-western towns, and now they are only 20%! They want more rights? No other country in the world give this much rights to their minority nationalities! My relatives in Greece and in Bulgaria cannot claim that they are Macedonians and not to talk to study on their own mother language!!! My mom's first cousin is Macedonian and her husband too and they lived in Greece.(And so many other people in northern Greece are the same as them!). So they firmly kept the fact that they were Macedonians. And you know what happened? Off course, they "suddenly" lost their jobs, and were not very welcome so they moved out of Greece! Albanians claim repression? And terror? Isn't it repression to walk in a store in Tetovo, in your own country called Macedonia where the official language is Macedonian and ask for something, lets say the type and the prize of jeans and you are not being answered? And you get reply in Albanian? Not being served if you don't speak Albanian? If that's done by someone, shouldn't that be done by Macedonian employer if an Albanian doesn't speak the language properly?!?! They claim repression? Asking more rights? Oh! They disable the whole process of giving them 100% rights by not sending their bunch of kids to school. When you go to the army (every male between 18 and 27 years must serve the army here) to get signed, you make certain tests so the people can know your abilities/disabilities and so that they can evident
you. So there, people ask: are there someone that cannot read/write? And guess what? Bunch of Albanians raise hand!!! Anything more to be said? How can those people get socialized and become a part of the society?! They talk about terror? Isn't it terror when a Macedonian reporter and camera people go to certain places where Albanian live and they get kidnapped and beaten?!?!?! Yes it is! Let me tell you, I mean this is so true, most of the Albanians are like centuriesbehind in the civilization! The situation is clear, their thesis for more rights doesn't make sense! What is it that they want? They want a big Albania, no matter how much they claim that it is not true! Their demands for bigger rights that would lead to a federalization of Macedonia and their demands for independent Kosovo together with a part of southern Serbia are just a steps towards big Albania! That is just so well known here, and so well known by the world politicians that try to be blind. Talking about the world and this crisis on the Balkans, there are things that need to be said. Not the Macedonian, but some of the biggest news paper in Europe and some of the best experts in Europe say that the American trying to break Milosevic down have helped and financed Albanian paramilitary groups that now operate in Macedonia (London's "Guardian") (the worst part here is that those groups have also now Macedonian Albanians in them!), the former minister for security in Germany said that the American's can see a mouse moving on Kosovo, and not to say whole groups of armed people getting into Macedonia. So it is kind of sad to see how the NATO and the European union, although they support Macedonia and its integrity and although they are against changing the Macedonian borders, they act so indifferent and so clewlesslly and so slow. Because now it is not time to represent both sides, to sit on two chairs, to playa game trying to take both sides. Now it is time to firmly stand against the international terrorism, against the Albanian ethnic extremists and to stand firmly on the side of Macedonia. And it is so sad and so unfair and so unjustly to Macedonia and to the people of the world to see how CNN shows the same pictures of Albanian refugees, exactly the same that it showed from the Kosovo crisis! Forgetting to mention that Macedonian accepted not couple of dozens, but couple of hundreds of Albanian refugees! Being a country of 2 000 000 people Macedonia accepted and accommodated more then 360 000 Albanian refugees! BBC is showing an interview with an Albanian woman with her kid saying how they have escaped from their village because of the bombing that Macedonian army does and because as she said: "Macedonians are worst then the Serbs every were"! First of all, there was no bombing at all 'cause we don't have war planes! Second they didn't show from where and to where she escaped! Third God, people forget how Macedonians, in all its material poverty accepted 360 000 refugees showing its spiritual value! And fourth, they don't show the thousands of Macedonians from Tetovo escaped all over Macedonia these days. Ask the people in Tetovo they would tell you that they have had a great life together no matter if you ask Macedonian or Albanian. They would tell you how they drink their first morning coffee with their neighbors or colleagues no matter their nationality or religion. I have a very good friend Albanian and she just says that she enjoys all the rights and this is all a bullshit! Ask the frightened and the reasonable Albanian people that escaped too, they would tell you that they have escaped because of the Albanian terrorists! The tragic things is that the local Albanian people are forced to join the paramilitary extremist groups, (some of them get carried away by the armed people and join the paramilitary groups by free will), the women are forced to act as refugees by being black mailed with their lives! But also, the airport in Pristina (the capitol of Kosovo) is now so busy because of Albanians coming to fight in Macedonia and because of "mujahedins" (Islamic fighters) has arrived al over to fight in Macedonia wich proves how easy carried away the Albanians are! The really tragic thing is that the terrorists now create, by their own, global cemeteries by re - burring their own died people from the past!!! Can you believe it??! The really said thing is that they try to create the same scenario that they created in Kosovo: that they are the victims. They do that by a very strong logistic support by the rich and influential Albanians living abroad, by making fake global cemeteries (it is well known that the biggest killing of 50 Albanians was done by the Albanian paramilitary groups who made that to look as something that Serbs have done it!), by having indirect support of the KFOR and NATO forces
yes! (As I said the Western European written media write how the KFOR and NATO forces that are on the Macedonian-Serbian border permit the armed groups to move freely (wich is totally against the UN resolution 1244, I know that resolution 'cause I have worked for NATO as a translator for a week and we practiced the implementation of the resolution)), by fighting very
successful propaganda war! (Also Macedonian security force that has captured many weapons and food pockets from the Albanian extremists with labels of KFOR. But OK, lets leave the other countries, and OK lets try to forget the worst irresponsible actions taken by the worst government (when I say worst I say regarding the very important national interests of Macedonia)
that we have ever had. I think the right move to be done by ourselves (and only ourselves!) as a country now is the following. We have few very important facts on our side: we have undeniable support by the world, we have an Albanian political party in the government and we have an document given by the Parliament (wich is the law-giving body in the country, and order-giving body to the government) that says that extremists paramilitary groups endanger the souvernity and integrity of the country and those facts oblige the government to do certain steps and we must take advantage of those facts. And what should we do! I think we must destroy the terrorists and their actions! And that is as quickly as possible. The stands that we answer to their fighting with the same amount doesn't make sense!!! For Christ sake we have people invading our country! It should be us to make actions against them! It should be us isolating them and making them surrender!!! That way we will pass this test as a stable and strong country that can control itself and that way we will enjoy a respect in the world. And why as quickly as possible? If we don't do that latest in the next 5 days (and yes we have the power to do it: military, economical power) the conflict will escalate and then a civil war might start! Then my country that was the only one of the former Yugoslav republic that got separated without blood and war will experience the same or even worst situation then in Kosovo and Bosnia! Inter ethnically and inter national hate will grow and become not controlling Macedonians are peaceful people but once their liberty, lives and future are jeopardized they can get pretty angry, wild, and warrior and that will bring lots of blood! And then the Europe will take part. And they are for peace no matter what the peace mean. And in this case it means negotiations with political representatives of the paramilitary groups wich is so humiliating and wich will result with federalization, after such a human and material loss! But lets hope that war won't happen!!! And what after this is over? (When I say this I don't mean war, but all this situation that is going on now.) Everything that we created in the past 10 years is demaged. We are steps behind of what we have built with so much patience. This kind of things just create a huge ice-santas between Macedonians and Albanians. How do we live together again? Well although the Albanians are a pain in the ass, although they are like a curse thrown to you, although they are so behind, although you give them a finger they take your whole hand, although Bulgaria in the past has solved a similar problem with Turks by moving them into Turkey, that's not the solution. The solution is after all this, all the terrorists, and extremists, all responsible for this and everyone that took part in this to be sent in prison, and the Albanian people to be educated and raised in spirit of common life, being told that what happened makes a damage to them too, endangers their lives and future too, they need to be convinced that they are victims of a political propaganda and victims of other peoples plansand ideas! Well there are so many more things o be said about the actual situation, that has origin 50 years ago and it is hard to be understood by someone that doesn't live here, there are so many things to be written about all the political games played for this region, about the illegal trade with drugs, cigarettes, alcohol
controlled by the Albanians and their political leaders (some of them on high functions) and coordinated by some KFOR soldiers and so muchmore…but
it is enough for now. I want you to know that I have written this very
objectively giving you true existing facts, with a clear brain, not carried away by any anger or sadness or something. I have been writing you this as a guy
that I am: very peaceful, very justiful, guy who sees himself as a citizen of the whole world, with very European orientation, guy whose imperatives are common life, happiness, tolerance, LOVE, justice and above all humanity.
P.S. At the end, as a citizen of Macedonia that wants all the best for my country and wants justice for my country, maybe I should ask you to spread this facts around so the truth will be understood the way it really is. Thanks J. Hugs and kisses!
