Being a self-proclaimed movie buff, I had to go out and get this and see what the fuss was all about. I tried to get it Friday, but it was out...Saturday the same, and today there was only one copy so I grabbed it.

I have to say, the acting is good. Both Jake and Heath are pretty solid in their acting. Jake of course is better, as I am sure most people going into the movie were thinking. But as you watch, you believe them and you're instantly pulled into wanting their "friendship" to stand true.

The characters are believable, and I would have liked to see more of the opening sequence (where they first meet) go on a little more. To show more of the building love affair.

But it was slow. Extremely slow at times...Yes, the visuals of the mountains were mesmerizing and beautiful, but it didn't make up for the pace of the movie. Yet so much time passes by between the actors.

I won't get into how it ends, don't worry. But how it ends, I really liked it. I wish I could tell you more, but then I'd be an asshole.

I think it's rentable for sure. probably a 7.5-8/10 Maybe I'll start doing some movie reviews for some of you, give them ratings and stuff. Then I'd feel like I posted something worth reading.

The movie was good but I thought it was overhyped and overrated. But I'm insanely picky about my movies too, so I'm probably in the minority.

Oh, I agree with you there!

Movies like Hustle & Flow, Cinderella Man, Batman Begins, Jarhead, Walk the Line were much better

Honestly, I think Hustle & Flow is one of the best movies that I have seen in a long time...

even 50 Cent's movie Get Rich or Die Tryin' was really good

anyone see "crash" yet?
if so, what did you think of it?

i give it an 8 out of 10 - and not just because matt dillon is in it... ;)

I thought Crash was a bit forced in some parts and thus seemed unrealistic at times, but Matt Dillon is such a rad actor ... he's just way too good at playing assholes.
Cheadle is good, too. Unfortunately for me, I'd only seen him once before, in Hotel Rwanda, and so I never got quite used to hearing him speak without an African accent. He does have the best make-you-spit-your-drink-out line in the movie, said just before he hangs the phone up on his Mother.
And Marina Sirtis from Star Trek has a small role in it. :)

Haven't seen BBM yet. I will one day, I'm sure, but I very rarely see films. My brother gave me his copies of The Constant Gardener and Munich, but I've been relaxing (read: bumming around online) when I haven't been busy working, training, or doing other errands and chores.

I agree about Crash...a bit forced and cliched.

and I really liked Hustle and Flow :)

my only quibble with "Jesus is Magic" is that it is WAY too short!

i saw it in the theater, thinking it would be an hour and a half at the very least

and it's only like 40 minutes!

why release a movie to theaters when it's basically no longer than an hour-long tv special?

boo to you on that one, sarah silverman

I'm going to echo Reena's and p-girl's sentiments on Crash. The concept was good, but it just didn't turn out all that well, imo.

I loved Constant Gardener, but haven't seen Hustle & Flow.

I saw the Inside Man on the weekend and wasn't too fond of that one. It was long, kinda slow, and nothing special. Especially since Clive Owen didn't have his lovely accent, grrr.

What's this about?? I've just one a free ticket to go to a movie Marathon on Sunday.. My choices are....

Marathon 1 see Scary Movie 4, 8 Below and The Shaggy Dog.
Marathon 2 see Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, The Pink Panther and Date Movie.
Marathon 3 see Failure to Launch, Aeon Flux and Hustle and Flow.
Marathon 4 there is V for Vendetta, Final Destination 3 and Firewall.

Passing on 1 & 2, already have more free tickets to see V for Vendetta so 3 it is..

I saw Brokeback Mountain two weeks ago....very good movie. I didn't think all that much of Crash, but it was o.k.

I was up with insomnia last night and saw a movie called "Bully." Anyone else ever see this? It's about a bunch of kids that kill one of their peers. It's very uncomfortable to watch as the director seems to exploit the sexuality in the film, but otherwise it's interesting. Apparently it's a true story. There's a funny subplot with one of the kids who is a wanna-be gangster who they hire as a hitman. Turns out the kid isn't a part of any gang and doesn't know the first thing about murder.

funny, i was just up the other night with insomnia and watched this too. mike pitt, who played drums with gus van sant on my charity album, is the blondish long hair crazy kid who stabs the bully first. i didn't even know he was in it! anyways, the movie was done by the guy (larry clark) who did the movie KIDS, an equally unsettling (but excellent) movie. some of the same actors and vibes throughout both movies too, it seems.

Bully was done by the writer/director? of Kids I believe...

I loved it. It's real, it's brutally honest...

and it just makes you cringe. I love movies like that. Movies that make you think and make you realize that this is really what life is like. Great pick for a film to watch...
