I used to listen to this song when I was like 10, and loved it....heard it last night on Almost Famous and almost cried....just brought back my childhood. Just downloaded it, "Hold me closer Tiny Dancer..." Just amazing.....

I have story about the song "Rocket Man" as well. This song was also one of my favorites as a kid. My parents rare influence....anyway...we were in Boston, it was like 9 or so at night. We were walking out of the Aquarium there, and the 5 of us were walking back to the Hotel, when I heard Rocket Man being played. I think I was only 10 or 9. As we were walking, the music got closer, and it was probably the most beautiful music I had or (maybe ever) heard. When we got to where to the music was coming from I stopped. There on the sidewalk was a homeless guy playing the guitar, and singing Rocket Man. I just stopped there and watched him. My parents kept walking, not realizing I was there....There was no one else there, this man was singing to me....All of a sudden I just had tears rolling down my face...not because the guy was homeless, but because it was the most powerful thing that I had ever witnessed. I pulled out the couple of dollars that I had, and begann to put it in the guitar case that only had a couple of dollars in it, and the man stopped, and said "No little buddy. You're tears were worth more than anything you could give."......And he just smiled, and packed up. And my parents came and got me.

I think this has had a huge impact on my life, it's just something that I will never forget.

what a great story, highway! i had a similar encounter in the 60s or 70s (im pretty bad at the whole time-line thing) while on vacation with my family in wash dc....it was very moving and something i will never forget

i was just a kid also, and was drawn to this group of people who were singing. this one guy came over to my family and started talking to us. he had just gotten back from vietnam and was hanging out around the capital building with friends, protesting the war. he was saying how a friend had given him a small bible to read while he was over there. because it was small, it was thick, too. he said that bible saved his life and then he took out the bible and there was a hole thru the middle that stopped towards the end, where a bullet had pierced it. he felt that God had saved him so that he could come back and share with others about how terrible war was.

sometimes, i think these people who come into our lives, seemingly at random, are like a type of guardian angel....there to share something that will effect the course of our lives for the better.

thanks for helping me to remember that, jake!

Wow! that's really an amazing story as well!

I was pondering the same thing, I think that there was definatly a reason for meeting some of the people that you meet. Some you may never see again. Those are the ones that are the most mysterious....it's just funny....

jake ...thanks for sharing that...what a nice kid you must've been (what happened? just kidding!)

I almost cried in that part of the movie too...and in a few other places too, believe it or not.
I like that quote where one of the band-aids talks about the love for music...when you love it so much that it hurts....(that hits home)
music can bring me to tears.

That was really something, Jake. Great story. I was touched. It gave me chills when the homeless guy said your tears were enough. Beautiful.

Great story. Elton's been an influence on me, too. It was his birthday on the 25th, actually. Rocket Man has always been a favorite, as well as Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. ("You can't plant me in your penthouse, I'm going back to my plow") Thanks for sharing. Music is more powerful than words can express.
