my daughter (she's 11) won a scholarship to blue lake fine arts camp...
we just found out friday..she plays the french horn...she had to audition...
in front of a panel of important people...and she did so good!
i'm just really super over-the-moon proud of her...
i know this isn't PJ related..(but hey, she does like PJ ...)
but it IS music related....
and it's good news...
so i'm happy to share it.. /images/smile.gif

Good for her! Does she play any PJ songs on the french horn? That would cool.

That's really awesome. I always wanted to play the French Horn when I was younger and started playing trumpet as a precursor. I then switched over to percussion to learn the Fine Art of Slacking Off, and unfortunately, I became a master and turned into the talentless hack whose words are before you.

Congrats to your daughter.

My stylin' words? Is that a nice way of calling me an English Geek? /images/smile.gif

Shall I sing (AKA- Break windows) right now?

*sings* "Man makes god so god can make man / man makes the devil so that he can understand / why it is that every day, everything always turns out this way / you and me we were never here / you and me we were not that clear / you and me we died a long, long time ago" - MGB, "Omissions of the Omen"

Last song I heard before I went online.

The party was fun! I'll reprint some of what's at CJWM:

I got a PJ shirt from my friends!! It's orange and it has the poster artwork for the European shows (the guy w/ the gas mask on. It says Berlin at the bottom and Pearl Jam at the top in green letters.)

AND -- I scored myself a Free Mini-Golf Pass at Castle Fun Park by getting a hole-in-one on the 18th hole, and I also got approx. 450 tickets to redeem at the counter. I got a small plush Odie (Rob's dog's name) and a weird little plastic sea turtle.

Dinsdale got absolutley stuffed with handouts. He could barely make it up the stairs last night and is still moving rather slowly. He's such a poopie.

My birthday's not quite over yet, though. My mom and stepdad are coming by tonight.

Great to hear about your little girl and her skills. It really is refreshing to see talent getting rewarded. You've got plenty of reason to brag and more! /images/smile.gif

And no, meaningless, you're not the only one who wishes to have creative artistic talent, either /images/wink.gifIf I had any, you can bet I wouldn't be enduring what I have to endure at school. Those bastards!

I played flute and alto sax and music was such an integral part of my life. It kept me together, focused. Keep encouraging your daughter! that's great! tell her a bunch of PJ folks are behind her all the way! I vowed that the next instrument I pick up will be the French Horn...it's so rich in sound...i love it!:):)

oh- can she play Mozart's French Horn Concerto? Get it for her on CD. It's beautiful.

tell her to look into Interlochen. It's a fine arts/music camp in Michigan I believe. World renowned musicians go there...you get there on scholarship/audition as well I think. I had a friend who went for piano. it was so tough to get into, but he did and when they had their competitions/recitals at the end of camp...he won first place. It will really send her off into the music world!:)

Nice!

I wish my parents were able to brag about me like that...... you see, when I was in grade school I played the viola.... I would always get first chair. I was good, or at least that is what my teacher told me. In fact, she told my parents that I have a real 'gift' for music and I should persue it in whichever way possible.

After the 6th grade I stopped playing. If there were ONE thing I could do over it would be to keep on playing the viola or any other instrument.

Hell, I coulda been the next Sir Michael McCready. /images/smile.gif

congrats on your daughter ardy!

anyway smirks, thats kinda what happened to me- i played the cello until 6th grade and i was always first chair and stuff, then i quit because it wasn't "cool" anymore, but then i started playing again in 10th grade... it took awhile to get it back, but oddly enough in 12th grade i was first chair again, but that's just cuz my high school orchestra sucked.
