I came to the conclusion that there are TOO MANY PENALTIES!!!!
I just got done watching the Devils game and there was penalty after penalty after penalty. I hope it clears up because its stopping the game big time, after they opened it up so much for continuous play.
Anyways, thats my rant, and to all us hockey fans................YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAWWWWWWWWWW !!!! :D :D :D
Devils won 5-1. I'm very pleased with Paul Martin and Zach Parise. It was the night of the Pee-wee's for us. All our goals were scored by our little guys, Brylin, Gionta, and Zach Parise(who got his 1st NHL goal!!!!!).
And who says size matters? :D
Hockey's back and I am one happy Chickie!

it will loosen up - they're trying to enforce a "culture" if you will among players so shit, like what happened in the past, won't happen again...

You're just cranky 'cause your precious, grammatically-challenged Leaves were on the losing end of it tonight.
To Ottawa. That's gotta hoight.

why would I be cranky? the Leafs didn't lose the hockey GAME tonight. we tied the game and got a point. that's a good thing.
unfortunately, we lost the gimmick. "welcome to the new NHL."

That was so full of Crank I had to listen to Mankind Man.
I wasn't debating the shootout doohickey ... at the very least, if they MUST have the SO, they could make the OT 10 minutes. 5 is pretty pointless.
But Toronto still would have lost. So there.

my t-birds ended in a tie on saturday at their home opener...I watched the OT and then left before the shoot out...I want nothing to do with that bullshit rule...they may as well just toss a coin
fucking bettman and his brilliant ideas
anyway, the penalties will mellow out if the whl is any indication...the first few games they played maybe 5 minutes total of 5 on 5 hockey...but the game saturday wasn't too bad penalty wise
I'm just happy as hell to have satellite finally and center ice so I can watch the canadian feeds of the games...the american feeds just suck beyond belief

I guess we'll never know.
5 minutes and a subsequent tie has never been an issue with me. I don't mind a tie.
I'm just big on team sports. "team" being the key word. which is why I like the way the MLB, NBA and NFL carry out their contests. they don't end regular season games with homerun competitions, three-point shootouts or long-distance field goals in order to gain an extra point. no need for gimmicks there... 'cause they ain't selling those sports to people who could care less.
and really, I've been complaining about the American influence on the NHL for many, many years now. this isn't a recent development. they've ruined our game at the professional level because Bettman doesn't understand the concept of living within one's means.

I think it's been a common complaint spanning the whole country, the undercurrent of resentment is definitley palpable. I get this feeling that Bettmann will be one of those people who don't know how to retire? Horrible thought but I can't help but think it.
It's just my job as a West Coaster - albeit, Canuck-hater - to rag on you re: Leaves/Leafs. But I suppose in solidarity, to combat the Americanization of hockey, that I should focus my attention on those who really deserve it: NY Rangers, Philly, and Detroit.

Bettman is a dope. There are many words to describe him and his dumbass ideas, but dope is as nice as I'll go, everything else is mean. :)
I cant wait to see what a joke OLN makes out of the game. I'll have to keep a bucket handy incase I vomit.

I've not heard good things about their coverage as of yet...however, they don't offer a glowing puck either

I think that just flew over my head......I thought they did? And those retarted in game, on the bench interviews....hey its cool to hear what a player is thinking, but come on, its gonna break their concentration, and most of them will not want to be bothered. This isn't the friggin All-Star game!!!
I think this is a Jeremy Roenick idea........he's a blabber-mouth show off so he loves and lives for attention. Thank God he's on the West coast now and out of my hair in the East. He really irriates me.

Im taking a break from watcing the Devils/Rags game because the officiating makes me want to vomit. Toooooooooooo many penalities are being called and its ticking me off. These "new" rules are driving me bonkers! I'm not lying when I say that the first two periods have been mostly on the power play/penalty kill mode.
And I'd also like the so called refs and goal checkers to get their eyes examed. The officals in the Devils/Flybabies game last night allowed a Philly goal that was completely inconclusive in crossing the line, and ruined the Devils psyche. You could not see the put AT ALL and they allowed it anyway. Complete bullshit if you ask me. And tonight in this game, the officals called off a goal by the Devils that was completely a goal when a RAGS player pushed Brylin into the Rags goalie when Madden's shot went in. THAT should have been a penalty on the Rags and that goal should have been allowed. It was disallowed because Brylin was "in the crease at the time of the goal". And have I mentioned that John Davidson is really really annoying?
And now the Rags are leading 2-1. The season of screaming at the TV has returned!
Blind bastards. Ive had a really shitty weekend. Blegh!

I agree on last night's goal..should have been whistled dead as there was no way the official could see the puck...and it never went over the line anyway
haven't been watching that game tonight so I can't comment on it...but, I agree, john davidson is annoying, but he's a former ranger, what do you expect?
