View Full Version : Second Surgery

So on July 6th I had surgery on my left eye.
Not pleasant, but the bad part was the doctor was not happy with the outcome. There was so much swelling and I could barely open my eye. So, on Thursday, I had a second eye surgery. There is only a 7 to 10 day window for any 'revision' surgery, otherwise you have to wait 6 months. I cannot go through this again!
It's a procedure to drop my eye lid since I can't close it all the way. The lid can close almost all the way, but not close enough as air is constantly hitting it including while I sleep. As I get older, and am a secretary working so much with my eyes be it on the computer or just plain old paper work....I couldn't take the dryness, pain, or pulling feeling anymore especially at the end of a stressful work day. It has been terrible, and the doctor has been monitoring it for 2 years now.
I'll be out of work again next week.....
I feel frustrated and worried, and Wednesday night with the impending second surgery I had a borderline migraine headache most of the night.
Today it looks better than it has during this whole thing which gives me hope.
I wrote to our Rearview mirrored friend last Tuesday and told her I look like Rocky Balboa and need to run down the street screaming....
ADRIAN,..... ADRIAN!!!!!
She wrote back to me yesterday and said the ROCKY THEME SONG IS PLAYING AT TENCLUB!

it's a sign broken!! - you have to put up a fight!
:)
wow - what you have been through
do you have a general for that? - i can't imagine lying still and watching
what was going on
surgery is just terrifying for me - you are one of the many brave souls here!
so the surgery will make you able to close your eye lid? that must be so difficult - it must have been driving you crazy not be able to give that poor overworked eyeball the break it needed
a corner of my thoughts are always with you just because your always there as one of the "people of my brain" - i'm setting up a surge of that electro-magentic-whatever-it-is-brain-wave-thought-stuff and shipping it all down your way - like a slice of cool cucumber!
heal my dear - HEAL!!

Just hearing that I am one of the 'people in your brain' makes me feel good!
The first surgery I was in 'twighlight' sleep. The thought of that freaked me out, but you have to be in that state in order to respond to the doctor's commands. Open, close, look left, look right etc...
I really almost cancelled a few times with the prospect of being 'awake', but you really aren't awake, you're on a different plain and really couldn't give two shits about what they are doing to you. Not bad, and if anyone here ever needs 'twighlight', I can say to you without any doubt, don't worry.
The second surgery was another story. I was completely awake, no anesthetic as that shot would have been more painful than the procedure. Tissue was still quite numb after last week's surgery.
I can't really talk about it, it completely freaked me out.
I kept my Lamaze childbirth techniques close at hand, in through the nose,
out through the mouth.
The doctor and his nurse were so awesome. We talked about all kinds of stuff to keep me calm, he has a wonderful sense of humor and is an excellent doctor. Everyone that I know who has gone to this practice of eye doctor's has nothing but high accolades and praise. They saved a friend's vision twice when she suffered from detached retina's.
No offense to the men here..... :bigsm:, but he said to his nurse...
'can you imagine if we had to do this to our gentleman patient this morning?'
she said, 'oh my God! He would never have been able to do this! And that women are the stronger of the two sexes', she told me they just had to clean out his tear duct with a Q-tip, didn't have to cut him, or do anything painful or terrible.
He wouldn't stop screaming and they had to calm him down, and relax him.
As the doc was stitching me up....:::fuckin' giant ouch::....they were telling me this.
I said, "Was he screaming like a little girl?'
doc said, "yes,...yes he was screaming like a little girl!!'
I then proceeded to say he was a little girly man,
It made for a bit of levity as I was ready to have a freakin' heart attack right there on the table.
I can't believe I made it through that, but I did so now it's just time to heal.
I will keep my mind open for ""electro-magentic-whatever-it-is-brain-wave-thought-stuff"", it's so very much appreciated!!

Hi Broken
I hope this little message finds you feeling much better.
I have eye problems as well and I know what you are going through. I work in an office as well and the pain I feel at the end of the day is a killer. I've got this condition called Iritis, and it causes the blood vessels around the Iris to become swollen and inflamed. My eye turns bloodshot and I get pain in my eye socket and brow bone. I don't think it requires any surgery, but if its not constantly treated and monitored, I could go blind and it scares the shit out of me.
I'm sending all my positive thoughts your way, and I know everything will work out okay.
Stay strong!

Eye thingies give me the jibblies. I have to do a retinal scan with every eye examination ... a gust of air hits your eye when the shot is taken and it bugs me so much that I end up having to do it 4-5 times before they say, "We'll use what we have".
I can't imagine feeling that air all the freakin' time. I hope the surgery is successful. Take care.

hi dear broken!
eye stuff freaks me out too...
I would never have surgery to correct my horrible ridiculous myopia.
I am so near-sighted I can't see anything anymore without contacts or glasses - not even the digital clock next to my bed or a book...
but I am too terrified of some catastrophe from eye-sight correction surgery.
The nightmare of having to go thru what you are dealing with ... oh man...
hopefully this last procedure will fix the problem...
wishing you and your eyelid a quick and complete recovery.
Love ya!

You guys are so wonderful! I just woke up from another ice-pack nap.
Green, please keep close tabs on that. One of my bosses suffers from that also and he's switched to a very large monitor at work with super large font to help the stress on his eyes. I don't know if you have an option like that but it has really helped him. We have large monitors in our building for ESL students (English Foreign language immersion students) and people who have a hard time seeing. They find the larger fonts and screens really help the kids learn the language. I believe a bunch of them were donated through one of our utility companies via an association for the blind.
I've updated my fonts to be a bit larger also over the years and it helps a bit. The screen isn't as tight looking but it brings a bit of relief.
JIBBLIES! That is a perfect description for eye thingies rockrighter. Eye things give me the jibblies also, and my first reaction to all of this is to have my butt clench into a jibblie fist and say BLECH, ICK.....UCKKKKKKK.
That air thing sounds horrible. Of course you want to pull away, it's a natural response to air being blasted in your eye!! just make sure you always let them do it though!!!
See now pgirl, I wouldn't be able to have any corrective surgery for vision either. It would worry me too much especially after this. I always have my glasses on and that's ok with me. I used to wear contacts but with time and the air hitting my eye more and more, I haven't been able to wear them in a few years.
GROOVN...!!
I LISTENED TO THAT DAMNED SONG SO LOUDLY!
After I read RrVw's note, I called my husband into the dining room and checked out the opening page of Pearl Jam's site and said
LISTEN!!!!!!!!!
I CRANKED IT!
I SAID, WHAT DOES THAT PARTICULAR SONG SAY TO YOU????????????
HE SAID......
PHILLY!!!!!!!!!!! :robot: :evo: :cyclops: :patch: :koed:
I'm really happy! We decided not to try for tix to the Borgata shows. With the tix, hotel and meals, it would have cost us about $450 - $500 for one night of entertainment and we just can't swing that kind of cash right now.
We want to take the kids into the city for a couple of nights and feel that's more of a priority than just one night for us.
By the little bit I've read about the Borgata shows, it looks as though we made a good decision.
Sounds like it was a bitch trying to get tickets.
I checked out e-bay last weekend, some folks had no trouble scoring 10 to 18 sets of tickets though did they, selling at a minimum of $300 per seat. fuck that sucks. These brokers must have flanks of people sitting there on computers scoring as many as possible when they go on sale.
Or, they must be giving very good head to someone in Ticketmaster!
HA! DID I JUST SAY THAT OUT LOUD!??? MUST BE THE CODEINE!
 :patch: :silly:

When I first got diagnosed with this I had the worlds tiniest computer screen and I had to plead with my boss and our technology guy to buy me a flat screen monitor to help ease some of the stress. But now that you mention it, I'll ask him how to change the font and make it a bit bigger. I had to get glasses to correct alot of the blurriness that the initial onset caused. I've even been thinking about finding a special shade that I can attach to my monitor to take away some of the glare. By 2 in the afternoon I start feeling it!
It could be from the shit weather around here, but my eye has been killing me lately.
Eye problems are the pits, and I hate eye doctors as well. Id rather be at the dentist with no novacaine then sit in the eye doctors office.
