a poem

[Immortal]

just a word they put on postcards:
5/7/00

happiness is just a word they put on postcards
to make you wish for a brighter day
wonderment is just an emotion
to lose the words you wish you could say
love is just a poem
a simple hollow breath
life is just cruel punishment
give and give, until there's nothing left.
"happiness doesn't grow on trees"
the smartest once told
now the pain has come once more
and the story's growing old
wonderment's a virtue, much as ignorance is bliss
the path that you haven't chosen,
is the one you always miss
love is just a pleasure
seemingly at odds
life is just a simplex
delivered by the gods
but if i am the poet,
then the seas are my soul
and if i am the end,
then it's all be foretold
so we must guide our passions
and we must shine our pride
we must lose our accents
and mourn for those who've died
happiness is just a word they put on postcards
to make you feel the common good
life is but a hollow tunnel
leading you where it should.

wow, this one is really old. probably my first post, actually, since it's from the same date i joined. thanks for reminding me of it, even if it did sort of mess up the space-time continuum of the board by bringing the <i>old</i> back as <i>new</i>.

Zach, I wish you wouldn't have gotten rid of yer other stuff. I hope that you had at least kept them...

a lot of them i didn't keep...only a few that i thought were worth anything.

i didn't use to put a high value on the things i would write, and i guess to a certain extent i still don't. it might come off as a little too arrogant, but it has always seemed to me that the thing i write <i>after</i> whatever i think is my best actually turns out to be my best. if that makes ANY sense. so for me it's not necessarily about the current writing, it's about achieving something even better. makes it more of a challenge in my mind.
that being said, i still have a drawer full of things, probably nearly 350 writings in all. and that's just one drawer. so, you know, you can't hold on to everything...
