odd choice.

i mean, i can get how, in the beginning of hitler's movement and before the masses understood that hitler really was an evil person bent on killing all jews, i can get how MAYBE joining the hitler youth was like joining the boyscouts, ignorance is bliss.

however, i would think that any membership in anything hitler or nazi would proclude a man from being the friggen pope.

that, and i dont understand how the people on this earth are so acceptable of ultra conservative leaders. is it all about the anti-gay and the anti-abortion thing? is that what this is all about cause i dont understand why anyone would want a conservative leader. just don't make sense to me.

all this pro-christian, world domination stuff is too antichrist/end-of-times shit for me:surprise: .

They wanted an older person to prevent another long Papacy like John Paul II.

I knew from the morning of the funeral on that Ratzinger would be the next Pope. I was hoping for the Progressive Italian man(his name escapes me) who believed in the use of condoms and such, but it is what it is.

I'm kinda flip flopped on it. Im stoked that he's a German(cause Im part German, stupid reason to some), but he's got no damn emotion at all. He's like John Paul with his conserative views, but he lacks the jovial and compassionate personality of John Paul II. And I don't think that will sit well with people. But who am I to say?

he was a member of the hitler youth because everyone was forced to be a member of the hitler youth...he deserted the german army....even the jews don't hold his past against him

he isn't the guy I would have picked for the job, but I must have been somewhere else when they called for my opinion

I am, however, glad he is conservative..the catholic church is the catholic church...if you don't want to follow what they feel the bible says, then find another religion

I don't have a problem with that...I even admire that in a way

we wouldn't need religion to 'enforce' it

Give the press a few more days then it will all be over and we'll all be like Ratzinger who?

The press just needs a few more stories about the man because hardly anyone knows him. They need the "Who is he and where is he from" stories to run then it will all die down.

If ya don't like it, like everything else, just change the channel. :)

Whoops, I think that came out wrong.....

I meant that, just like you would do with anything else you didn't like, just change the channel.

Sorry......this new brunette color still doesn't hide the blonde dumbness. :)

Yes I know I am going to hell.

Seriously though, I am disappointed in the new Pope. I was raised Catholic though I am not religious, nor are my parents for that matter. But the tradition thing is kind of nice and it makes my Grandmother happy. This was the last straw for me though. (The first being the nun in first grade who told me the way I was coloring my math worksheet was wrong and made me do it over so that I colored it all in the same direction.) Also, the small church that I grew up going to in MA was closed this winter (along with many others) in order to pay for the sex abuse lawsuits. It was a vibrant and active congregation that had no problem paying for itself but the property was worth some money. Meanwhile the cardinal who was responsible for the closings and for a large part of not reporting/not dealing with pedophile priests has a nice cushy job at the Vatican these days. All of these things in addition to the now even more conservative anti-women, anti-birthcontrol, anti-gay bent has left me feeling like the Catholic church is pretty much the opposite of something I'd want to be associated with. I was pretty detached before but now...I don't know...there's just nothing. If the folks at the Vatican took a hint from Mother Teresa and lived serving others in a way that was meaningful perhaps I'd reconsider. I guess this is what Ratzinger wants though...to weed out the relativism...too bad he doesn't know what he's losing.

god knows that i have my issues with the Catholic Church however as an adult I don't have to have a damn thing to do with that crazy cult no more and that's just as well because it doesn't look like anything is ever gonna change how they operate things.....bleh :gas:

Okay. I'm not going to tell a single person who/what they should believe in, or if they are to believe in anything at all. It's up the person to decide, as I think that we all agree on that idea I think.

It's hard to see that there is a new Pope when we have seen this man there for so long. I didn't really look at him as a Pope but as a great human being who had some ideals that I didn't believe in but respected the way that he carried himself in helping our world get closer to peace.

Has/Does the Catholic religion have some issues that need to be addressed? Yes. Of course it does. It has had these for a very long time, more than nearly every other religion. Did the Pope fail to do anything about them? Yes, as did everyone else in the Catholic higher-ups...and sadly this Pope will probably do the same.

Somebody said something like...the Pope is conservative...so is the Catholic religion...made a good point. The religion has always held conservative morals, it's been known since the Bible started to be followed and read.

Mere and I have been going to classes with a couple who have been married for 41 years. The classes are through the church because we are getting married in the Catholic church (if you didn't know I was brought up Catholic). What I have found myself thinking lately, oddly enough coming from me, is that the way that these two are together in their lives kinda makes me want to go to church.

I can remember the times when I was at church and I understood what was being read from the Bible, or a letter from Paul or Luke...and I thought that I was getting it. I understood the meaning...I understood the morals that were being taught. And I lived by them, mostly.

As I grew older I think that I highly rebelled against the religion for the sole fact that I no longer wanted to go to church. Then it slowly became, "I don't believe in God," and "Prove to me there is a God and then I will believe." These types of ideals are somethign that I am contiplating a lot lately.

It really has nothing much do to with religion but more to do with the ideals that go with it. Will I ever be a conservative on most issues? No. Will I always want my child to learn morals? Yes. Do I use the morals that I learned in church? Yes. Where did they come from?

My parents were the types of parents that, though they truly loved me and showed it, had me learn morals mainly through the church and the Gospel. Those were things that I was able to comprehend from an early age and adapt into my life. I lived thinking that there was a God and that I could depend on him to help me. I could depend on him to show me guidance. It was something I did without any thought.

Then came that time, like I mentioned before, where things changed. I talked about this with our couple and asked them what they thought. They said that it's perfectly understandable because they had done the same. God takes a back seat, to somethign that is called growing up and changing.

I haven't fully typed what I actually wanted to say really. I went off on a tangent. But I think that the important thing to realize is that there isn't a right or wrong answer to these issues. The Catholic church will always continue to be conservative and very...right-wing(foralackofabetterterm) and what the people need to decide is how strongly this "faith" needs to play a part in thier lives.

I am all for people believing in God and praying and doing all that stuff that goes with Church. It shows growth and love for a community. What I am not for, is having the church run your life and take your money and be the sole moral-teacher to our children. Our parents must do that.

I think that the Catholic religion should've gotten a different Pope. With the media so far on Pope John Paul II's side, one can only imagine what would have been the new followers who saw his greatness and would have gone and supported the Catholics if they brought a man closer to them and many of the young American way of life. Though he is not a leader of our country, he has the unique leadership that no other leader in the world has. He crosses seas and boundaries and goes into every country. Their religion and church need the United States as a main source to grow and become a better rounded "following"...and I think that much of our youth needs something...

Okay...if you didn't understand a word I wrote....sorry...end of rant!

I did kind of get off of what I wanted to talk about I guess but I think I stated most of what I wanted to say.

One thing that I want to add is that I have found it odd that I have been questioning things. I think it's because that I've thought for so long that I was so anti, that I was missing the point.

It really has nothing to do with religion, especially in a marriage, but more to do with bringing you and your spouse(future) closer...to a point where you honestly can't go unless there is some form of faith.

It doesn't have to be the God that Catholics praise, nor Buddha, Mary, or any other form of diety. I think what the main point is is that there is something that is bringing your spirit, or soul, closer to your family, friends, and closest companion.

I haven't fully grasped what I have been questioning. I guess the guilt of being a Catholic is making me say to myself "If you haven't believed in God for such a long time, why would you all of a sudden start saying that you believe in something?" or "You still have a question as to if God exists...how could you still pray?"

Things like that I will have to talk about, think about, ponder over, and toss around. I wanted to talk about the new Pope...but as you can see I have little about that...

haha...thanks for reading...I'm full of hot air
