I just got an email about the Vancouver show going on sale this Saturday at 9:30am. I will likely be buying the tickets online.

Helpful hints on how to get the best seats possible would be most appreciated. I'm buying GA seats 'cause they're cheaper ($51) and frankly, my mission is just to see U2. My Dad and stepmom want the good seats ($165 & $95) - "Standing Reserved" - whatever that means. I don't think the seating chart at TM's site is accurate; it has a normal concert stage setup.

I've created an account with The Bastard (Canadian version), so all my billing info is in there already.

What should I expect? Obviously a slow server, but how long before 9:30am should I be there ... I assume I keep hitting refresh so I know when the tickets are onsale ... I've got the link (http://www.ticketmaster.ca/event/11003962D20A5BCF?brand=&artistid=736365&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=1) bookmarked ... is it possible to buy 2 GA seats and 2 SR seats at the same time, or do I have to do them separately?

Or should I go to the kiosk in the mall?

Please and thank you. :)

i think the ticketing this weekend is lottery through all three means - first comes first serve -

the GA tickets are FLOOR tickets AND upper level tickets - make sure you get what you want - just be ready to try and try and try - like i said - i tried for two hours before getting tickets and i was on there right before sale time. the server won't be too slow if you have a good connection but it gets bogged down...i was averaging about 2 attempts per minute for a solid two hours. good luck -

Maybe I should just go to the kiosk then? My Dad remembered that he can't go because he's likely to have his ear surgery around then, so no loud music. Thus, I don't have to worry about the SR seats, just my own pair.

Upper level would be good for me since I am short, and won't be able to make it to the venue until a couple hours before showtime due to work. Regular GA I run the risk of being stuck behind a tall person - which is anyone over 5'3" to Li'l Shrimpy here.

Is the stage in the round, then?

Thanks, Dommie-Poo. :)

i have a superfast cable internet connection.

i logged into 2 ticketmaster windows about 8:45 (tickets for msg went on sale at 9am).

i hit refresh a few times, just in case they put them up before 9 and also to figure out which connection refreshed better. they were both the same. and they didnt put them up early.

in case you didnt know, you have to hit refresh in order for the ticket order screen to come up. they dont put the ticket order screen up UNTIL the tickets go on sale (ususally about a minute after the *on sale* time).

at 8:59, i began refreshing. you have to do this, but you have to do it right. you want to make sure that you wait til about 45 to 50 seconds BEFORE the onsale time to refresh. at a minute before the onsale time, everyone is refreshing their screens and the server gets sllllllllllllllllllllllllllllooooooooooooooooooooo ow. so, if you wait until, say 9am, then your server will prob take until 9:02 to bring the screen up and by then it could be sold out. this is why its good to have more then one ticketmaster window open (and you can be logged on with your account in a few windows). if you have a very slow server, i would maybe start the refresh at 30 seconds until onsale time.

anywho, this time, i got logged into the system at 9:03 and all i could find was one $59 ticket, but it is on the 300 level, behind the stage. it was totally sold out. AND, the first few times, i came up with nothing, i found that ticket prolly about 9:08. its easier to work with an odd number (3 or 1) then an even number.

i would suggest that you try to get to a library where they have a cable connection.

or try the kosik at the mall. or phone.

if you try phone, your best bet is to call a ticketmaster outlet that is not near where the concert will be (instead of vancover, try the montreal outlet). or try an obscure town that has a ticketmaster outlet. i think you can find a list at the ticketmaster site.

anywho, hope this helps ya and good luck :D

the problem with calling an obscure ticketmaster outlet is that, sometimes, they aren't authorized to sell tickets for the place you want to get tickets for. we tried that for u2 in 2001 for the east rutherford show...didn't work.

if you find another outlet that will sell you U2 tickets, make sure nothing big is going on in that area at that date.... you don't wanna lose your chance to get U2 tickets because of some crazy Barry Manilow fans

I'm screwed. I thought I was in with a wait time of 8 minutes, but then I get soem stupid error, "Access to our ticketing system is limited at this time, please try again later."

THERE IS NO LATER, YOU DOUCHEBAGS!

I'm hosed. It's too late to get in the car and drive to the kiosk, it's about a 5-6 miniute drive plus a walk through the mall (which isn't big, but when you factor in locking up the car, depends on where I find a parking spot too - it is Saturday.)

That message probably means they are sold out, but I'm hopeful there'll be a second show added.

they just added a second show but I can't seem to get tickets for it; it doesn't give another when those might go on sale.

I've tried a variety of settings and all I get is this for the Friday show.

There were no tickets that matched your request.

There are several things you can try:

Change the quantity of tickets you are requesting.
If you selected a specific seat section, switch to "Best Available"".
If you are unable to find tickets, be sure to check back often. As the date of the event nears, many times a limited number of tickets may be released.
If you entered a promotional code, check that the code is valid for the ticket price and criteria you selected.
They had the ticket window up to search for tickets, but when the first show sold out they didn't say when the added show ticket sales were going to start. So I went and had a cup of tea and came back to see if they'd posted a date/time for the Friday show tickets sales to begin. Too late, I guess. I hate how TM.ca rarely ever says shows are sold out when they are. They should have postings ASAP so people don't waste their time, but they never seem to.

i know i said this already - but i got the screen for 2 solid hours and then finally got tickets - there are people who have tickets who are trying to decide if they want them or not - so it's not technically sold out but there aren't tickets available - i got tickets for philly after they said it was sold out and added another show. i know it seems futile - but keep trying...if you have the time to do it today. and if not, just try every day going forward.

I'm going to keep trying but I may just head to the kiosk and see if they have any available through their system if I happen to head to like, oh my god, the mall, sometime this weekend.

And instead of buying two tickets I'm just going to buy the one and go by myself. Two tickets would be impossible at this stage, I think.

i'm all for bringing back the days of the ONLY way you could get concert tickets - sleeping in the parking lot until the morning the tickets go onsale. and they sell them to you in the order you got there, if you're first in line, you get first dibs, if you show up last or late, you get last or late dibs - and -not some wristband-here-you-go-come-back-later crap, either.

But then my hand would get yellow paint on it. I'm too impatient to wait for it to dry.

I want to kick Ticketmaster in the butt for having an insecure site - I heard scalpers were hacking when the presales were going on for the fan club members (who got pretty screwed over, I hear) and getting a bunch of good seats. On the other hand, I'm hearing they're selling the crappier seats first and then releasing better ones later, but that could also be a crock of shit. Who knows? Oh, well. It's not like I'm going to be horribly upset if I don't get to see them. They'll likely be back in a couple of years anyway.

I'm also thinking that a lot of Pacific Northwesterners sought tickets to the Vancouver show because despite the currency changes, the prices were the same. So essentially, the ticket prices in Canada are cheaper for them ($1 CAD = roughly $.80 USD, I think.) But if you figure in the added travel costs and border hassles, it may turn out to be the same price anyway.

Feh.

feh is right -

well, TM was selling the expensive seats first because people want tickets and thought they want GA tickets they will take what they can get and they think that the 165's were all they could get so they bought them. they wanted the places to sell out so of course they did that. i don't think that the site was actually hacked - the problem i have seen is that the fan club system was flawed and scalpers were able to get upwards of 40 memberships. and, on top of that, that 8 ticket limit didn't help either. scalpers have money so they're going to buy 8 tickets every time and sell 8 tickets. i'm poor - i thought about buying 8 and putting 6 of them on ebay. i got my two and put the computer away though.

i would try again on tuesday - that's the cut-off for credit card orders that are flawed - yellow hand isn't that bad!

Thanks for the help/support, folks. In today's paper, it said, "If you're looking for tickets to either U2 shows, good luck." So, I figure I'll try every so often after work this week, but I won't hold my breath. Oh well.

Let's check Ebay.ca to see if anything's up yet ...

Oh, yeah. One bastard's from Hamilton, Ontario. Most are going in the $3-400 range and they're not even good seats. I'm not willing to pay a stupid amount of money (more stupid than what U2's charging - I wish they'd not have such an elaborate stage show, it's not necessary.)

I tried and I failed miserably. The lesson is, never try. (Good 'ole Homey.)
