if i could snail mail our b-day boy Jeff Ament a b-day card, here's an idea of how it would read...
yeah, happy birthday!!
when i took up bass guitar in high school, it had to do with U and John Entwistle (the WHO), my music instrumentalist inspirations.
everyone in high school who wanted to take up an instrument wanted to be a guitarist,..the drums were too expensive, nevermind i didn't have the patience to sit and practice with a drum pad and i couldn't sing a lick, so i decided i'll be Jeff Ament :)
i remember watching your performances on MTV Unplugged, SNL 1 (where you practically took ev's head off at the end of ALIVE),..and in all the early PJ posters you just appeared to me as the motherfuckin' coolest bass player in world...
watching highlights of PJ shows after VERSUS skyrocketed to number 1 on MTV, with you behind ev, moving the tempo to a fever pitch for GO and ANIMAL, swaying back and forth like a mighty Viking...
man, i'm still in awe of the bass line for GO.
my music teacher just didn't understand my appreciation for you as a bass player.
it got to the point where i would read over and over to him your paragraph about the "power of music" at the beginning of the guitar tablature for TEN...

who wants to be a jazz bassist anyway? i wanted to learn how to play the intro bassline for JEREMY!
i read somewhere how you idolized the bass player from IRON MAIDEN, that you decided to play the bass for this reason. i wonder if this is true...
even when you appeared with the HALF-ASS MONKEY BOY t-shirt for an MLB photo shoot, U pulled it off, still one cool dude...
