Good evening. Just moments ago I read the post by Smirks declaring Byzantine Bug and Edvedderismyhero the winners of the 2001 10,000th boot contest. I called the winners and congratulated them on becoming the 10,000th posters on the Smirks board. And I promised them I wouldn't call back this time.

I also accept my responsibility, which I will discharge completely upon NOT being the 10,000th poster, and do everything possible to bring all Jammers together in a big unity-filled orgy of love.

I know my supporters are disappointed. Those being the people who would get to LISTEN to the boots if I'd have won them. But our dissapointment must be overcome by our love of Smirks' board.

And I say to our fellow members of the Pearl Jam community (i.e. those at Synergy): Let no one see this contest as a sign of Smirksian weakness. The strength of Smirksian democracy is shown most clearly through the difficulties it can overcome.

Way to give me a heart attack Phil...I was on this afternoon and came back on for a few minutes just to see who won and I read this post first...wow I thought you were joking...then I read the winnersp ost. i responded so lamely to that winners post...i guess I'm still in...uh shock. wow. My birthday was yesterday too. How ironic. Wow. Hm. I love you all. I love Smirks. I love this site. I love how you wrote Mike Bless hehe.

well, I was just chatting on IM, and I happened to come here, and I noticed all the new posts, so I checked to see how close to 10,000 they were. The count was at 9987, so I opened a new window, made a post, and went to the preview screen, but I didn't hit 'continue'.

By then, the count was at like 9995, so I went back to the FIRST window, and hit refresh until it got to 9999, then I went back to the second screen and hit continue, thinking my post would come up before everybody who was TYPING their ten thousandth.

Then again, maybe everybody else did that, too. It's pretty diabolocal, isn't it? /images/laugh.gif
