i suppose it depends on what you categorize as 'metal'
give some examples
however, back in the day when i lived in horrible AZ all my guy friends were metal heads and so i learned lots of sabbath, pantera, old school metallica, iron maiden
knowing the lyrics to those gave me uber cool girlwhoisoneoftheguysstatus
but for me, long gone days!

Long gone day.... wasn't that a Madseason song? :D
I was never really into metal. I do like the classic Sabbath and Iron Maiden though. Scorpions are pretty cool too. :)

back in the day Motorhead was one of my fav's! Used to see them alot, not even sure how many times. One of my favorite shows was a hot summer night at Irving Plaza, early 80's but I forget what year it was. The airconditioning broke and about 1/3 through the show Lemmy-Kilimeister-Meister-Burger announced "It was too fuckin' hot to play." so they left the stage, came down into the crowd, and drank beers with everyone.
I also loved Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy when Randy Rhodes played with him, L'Amours West in Brooklyn was a favorite stomping ground....I used to be really into metal, until the shit-pretty-boy bands came and ruined it. :chinese:
Bands used to play the Palladium on 14th street all the time. There would always be people in the crowd who were locals hanging out. The guys from the Plasmatic's would be regulars at shows, and if those dudes from Forest Hills happened to be in town and not touring around somewhere, you would usually see one or two of them hangin' around too.
It was a very fun scene. Very relaxed believe it or not.

im not your classic metal head, ie iron maden, black sabath etc
but i love metallica, system of a down, any metal with melody, not into full on black metal.
metal is great fun to play on the guitar, my band used to be metal, but we decided to easy up to make it a bit more listenable, its more a punk/metal fusion now
